My average premium over MSRP on what we sell is $1995. There are dealers a few miles from us that charge more than that pre-Covid

That mentality is one you could use but doesn't get you far with most companies. Im the same guy that helps people any time I can whether its picking up random tabs at restaurants, paying for the 2 cars behind me in a drive thru line, or just the same guy people see at church on Sunday mornings. If being a "car dealer" makes me an unethical scum bag then Im ok with your classification of me because one thing I do know is Im not the one out judging others that they don't even know just because of their job title

Tesla also has terrible customer retention...people buy one bc the idea is cool but hate the experience afterwards. That and its been researched time after time, customers want the 1 on 1 with a person when shopping. The majority want someone to show them how to work their car and know what they're doing when they leave with it. Its just the actual experience that some dealers provide doesn't meet the standards in how people are serviced during and after the sale. But what do I know Ive only been doing this 22 years now.

I will tap out of this feed for now, I fully understand you can't change peoples mind when they have a one sided opinion of others no matter how inaccurate it is. Ill go back to the other feed where Ive helped prob 20 people now track their sold orders that the dealerships that are actually selling them and making money off of them won't help them with. I have several more people asking for help with that so I will go offer my free assistance there. You all have a great evening

Whatever. It’s far from inaccurate. In fact, it’s more accurate than you want to admit.
If you’re one of those guys that actually acts in an honest manner than good on you. There are somewhat ethical dealers out there. There’s a shit ton more that employ and operate by trying to squeeze anywhere they can to screw the customer.

@mike220022 are you the owner of a dealership or a guy that works at a dealership? Either way, do you mind posting up the dealer. Thanks.

Well, this seems to contradict your story.
    https://insideevs.com/news/596255/t...trend-sees-important-brand-loyalty-gains/amp/

From my experience, and I’ve only been buying cars now for 30 years, most sales people know very little about the vehicles they sell and it’s a waste to spend time asking them to explain things. You’re much better off getting out of there and doing your own research.

you are right, there are some dealers that are complete crooks, never said there aren't. But id say its also like the "all cops are bad" argument. Sure there are bad people in every profession but the few bad shouldn't classify all as the same

You're free to your opinion, I don't know you so I will reserve mine of you. Although your judgement of others says a lot

It’s one of the least respected businesses around. There’s a reason for that.

Why so I can have people like you bash my company because you're offended by someone making a profit? No thanks

It seems like three Richmond dealers i know of figured out how to sell at MSRP. Why can't other dealers figure it out? Bottom line, dealers are there to make as much money as they can. Buyers want to save as much as they can.

Plus, why is the first trade-in offer always lowballed in the attempt to take advantage of the consumer. Especially when you've done your research, know what blue book value is of a trade and the dealer just wants to take advantage and see if you're naive enough to take the offer.

Not always lowballed...we typically go buy MMR which is what dealers are actually currently paying. I will say though if someone hits you thousands off right now then yea they trying to cheat you. Used cars are up 30% and higher on some models. The past year Ive given people back thousands over what they paid me for a car when they come back to trade, its nuts but hey it works. They get a great trade figure and Im still able to sell it so it works for us both

Sheesh…..this has devolved quickly. Here is what I know when I go car shopping:
    1. I am likely never going to be completely satisfied with the deal I got.
    2. The dealership is going to make some money on the deal.

To whoever has an issue with the dealer markups nowadays, why shop for a new car at all? Wait until the market isn’t so volatile and buy when you can get a better deal. Those who choose to buy at dealer markup CHOOSE to buy at dealer markup.

All that said, the other side of the coin is, supply is down exponentially. It’s a fact that dealerships are not getting the volume that they once did. And as such they DO need to turn a bigger profit on each sale to keep from laying people off, cutting wages, etc. If the dealership tried to cut wages, many would be saying “they’re pieces of shit for cutting wages!!!”

A TON of companies have been hit hard by the supply chain shortages and many have shuttered their doors completely. I am fine with dealerships charging a little more (the ones with 10k markups can eat shit) to make it so they can still employ their staff and turn a little profit. BUT I also choose not to shop in this volatile market (and frankly don’t like the new tundra). As shocking as this may seem, not many companies survive when not turning a profit.

Both sides can be right here, and maybe some are judging the dealer on other reputations. Give the guy a chance before you start calling him a money grubbing chump………if you’re in the market to buy, contact him and see what he can do on a deal. If it doesn’t stack up, THEN call him anything you want.
