Is there a reason to go into the timing chain cover?

I bought my ‘13 back in January. I just discovered someone has been into the timing chain cover for some reason. Only 2 previous owners.

The only thing in there I can think of replacing in there are the timing chain guides.

    Truck has about 175,000 miles.

what do you guys think? Are these a common fail on light-duty trucks? This is my first truck smaller than a class-a.

    thanks

Timing issues are not common... tho you don't make any mention of which engine your truck has.

Anyway, if I assume 5.7, the cam "towers" seaping oil would be much more common. Resealing the cam towers would require removal of the timing cover.

    Ah ha!

...I believe the 4.6 suffered from the same oil leak.

I know you can register your VIN with toyotas website(.?) and get info regarding any servicing or maintenance performed thru the dealer network.

Might be worth a look to satisfy your curiosity
