15.1mpg on my first tank and just filled the second tank and averaged 19.4mpg. Had about 70% highway miles.

My answer to that for a daily driver is absolutely not. Unless your daily use is constituted of actual off road driving where you need more clearance and better approach angles every day, and you need heavier tougher tires to avoid punctures. That scenario applies to maybe 1% of users who modify their Tundra with big tires and a lift.

The other 99% are modifying their truck for 1% of their use by mileage and time, and doing modifications that make the truck demonstrably worse for 99% of their use. There are a lot of automotive posers, and pickup truck owners are the most numerous offenders here.

Frankly if constant off-road driving without a load is your daily use case there are far superior vehicles to a 1/2 ton pickup. Like a Jeep, 4Runner, etc. If your scenario is a work truck that is driven off road a lot with tools and materials, there are better options to be had in HD gassers like the Tremor or Power Wagon that have much more robust axles and suspensions made to deal with that kind of abuse.

To me a 1/2 ton pickup truck is a Jack of all trades master of none that should be well rounded and reasonably capable of most tasks if used carefully. If you immediately have an actual need to modify the truck to be better at a certain task you should have bought the appropriate tool for the job to begin with. Most users don’t have an actual need, they just want to have different cosmetics so they can pretend to be something they’re not. Kind of like most owners of Harley Davidson motorcycles.

Road trip from North or Toronto, Ontario to Cape Breton Nova Scotia. 4 adults and luggage for 2 weeks on board. 95-97% highway driving with cruise control set between 120km/h - 125 km/h. Unfortunately the app I use doesn’t let me go back & see input data - just the calculated result. I didn’t know that at the time I started using it so didn’t write details down. Approx 2000 km trip one way.

I started with a full tank, topped up at Ontario/Quebec border approx. 470/490 km - 11.7 L/100 kms (20.2 mpg) this section was generally flat.
Next fill up was in upper New Brunswick ( between Edmundston & Grand Falls) approx 680 kms - 12.4 L/100 kms (18.9 mpg) this section was generally flat for 75% of it & then the the hills of the upper Appalachian’s.

Next fill up was at Canso Causeway, entering Cape Breton from mainland Nova Scotia. Approx 650-680 kms, - 13.1 L/100 kms (17.9 mpg) mostly hilly with maybe 20% flat

I see that all the time in my AO. Oil field, coal mine, RR, and ranch trucks that are pretty well stock except maybe tires. They’re covered in mud and dirt and are being driven off road, or on unimproved roads constantly. Yet despite being stock, manage to get actual work done.

Then there are all the spotless bro-dozers with tire shine, 24” deep dish donk wheels and other silly shit.

After basic training I bought a used '87 F250 2wd. It had the 351 Windsor and I think 351 different colors. Every panel had been replaced with a different color at some point. Stock suspension and stock tires, but with 500lbs in the bed for traction that thing went places the brodozers wouldn't even consider.

I wish I still had that truck.

Averaging 15.5 on first tank of gas with new wheels and tires(leveled with 37’s). I’ll take it. Told my wife it’s unbelievable that our truck gets the same mileage as her Sequoia. Needless to say she was not amused and proceeded down the path of “I thought these things were supposed to get better gas mileage…”. In the interest of keeping the current setup I kept my thoughts to myself and changed the subject. Love this truck and shocked by how nice the SR5 actually seems to be, haven’t experienced a single problem mentioned on this forum(rattles, squeaks, wastegate, mirrors fallings off, trim, seals, bed or tailgate issues) unless you count the crazy amount of safety and assist nonsense.

Just had to take a shot at the Harley guys… Hilarious!

Well I live in the Black Hills, so every August I get a big dose of Harley Riders during rally time.

Not to be a dick about it, but within two days of the rally kicking off I’m pretty well over them.

Not all of them mind you, I’ve met plenty of nice guys and gals out on their last vacation for the summer having a good time and minding their own business. God bless and ride safe, have fun, do your thing.

Then there are the douche bags, oh man are there some douche bags. I could generalize on observed state of origin, but that might be construed as political in nature. Suffice to say a lot of these douche bags spend a week playing dress up like they’re a 1%er or some shit. They ride like shit, act like Jack fucks, and generally need to have their gene pool heavily chlorinated.

They’re going to a costume party with their bike on a trailer, I see them every year pulled into a rest area at places like Mule Creek junction in between Lusk, WY and Newcastle, WY. Unloading their custom chopper or bagger etc off the trailer, putting on their douche bag bandanna *douchedanna* and preparing to ride east towards Edgemont, SD and then up into the Black Hills. They want to look like they rode all the way. I’ve even seen a couple that were all inked up with a luxury motorhome and toy hauler throw their brand new leathers down and get them good and dirty looking. Gotta have authentic costumes! Do you even ride brah?

You mpg solidifies my belief that it’s about 20% loss living in maritimes, climbing hills non stop all the time.. it’s a mileage killer. Can’t imagine how happy I’d be with mpg if I lived in Florida without many hills, and almost half the cost of gas from Canada.
I could afford to run 37’s and lift and not complain about 13-15mpg lol

It’s because the reserve on our truck is like 6 gallons. Kinda crazy. I tend to fill the truck at a half a tank any ways which is around 300 miles for me which is about what I got out of my 2013 tundra which was a 4.6

6 gallons over the span of a large tank is really not that much fuel when you think about it. Maybe an inch or 2 of fuel left to cool the fuel pump.

So, with a couple tanks of 93 in her (Tanya is her name btw, Tanya the Tundra) I also observed about 1.0 - 1.5 mpg increase. I also noticed that the pedal was slightly more responsive. I didn't have to push it as far to get satisfactory acceleration. I wasn't holding up traffic, but I wasn't pushing the car in front of me either. Anyway, got around 18.0 in mixed city and hwy. Had a couple highway trips at 20.0 and 21.1 over a few hundred miles. Saw 15 - 16 around town. Overall not that bad. I think the brutal humid hot air really diminishes mpg too. I'm curious to see what we all observe in the fall and winter when the air is denser, and the AC isn't on full blast all the time.

Just a follow up on the rest of my trip, as you are from maritimes ( I did see an army green in Cape Breton near the Mira, you?)
tooling around Cape Breton, vacationing full of people always, it was 12.9 l/100km
Did a run to Halifax & back - 12.6 l/100km ( cruise at 120-125 km/h for most of it) this was unloaded.
Return to Ontario fully loaded with 4 adults & gear - gassed at Amherst 13.3 l/100km, gassed outside Rivière du loup 13.9 l/100km & gassed just before Napanee Ont, 12.0 l/100km all hand calculated.

almost all highway with cruise set between 122 &125 km/h for all of it. Total distance of entire trip, over 5500 kms.

So yes, the hills and twisty turny roads in the maritimes obviously lower your economy. It was good to see & do the run there & back. I just wish I had recoded kms /tank better as the app I used won’t let me go back into the data to see what I input. But in general I was topping up in the high 600s kms with range to spare, except last one which was over 700 with range to spare.

I recently got a 2022 1794 hybrid 4x4 6.5' bed. While I never expect to get advertised mileage, I thought I would be getting a good bit better than my 2013 5.7L 4x4 5.5' bed.

Does anyone else have this set up and only getting about 13mpg even when granny driving? If I drove it like I drove my last truck I bet it would be in the 11s like my old one was. Just expected a little bit better. I drive about 25 miles per day on average and it's about half and half city/highway.

I am on my first road trip with the new truck. I am leaving from Lindsay, ON, going to Grove City, PA. From PA we are heading to Frisco, NC (OBX).
FYI... From Lindsay to PA I am getting 21 mpg (US), averaging between 70 and 75 mph. When I get home I will break it down in more detail... ie: L/100, MPG (US), and MPG (Imp)

Awesome update. And no I wasn’t in Cape Breton.. I’m in Amherst where you filled up, (also one of the only few places that you can buy 87 ethanol free gas). It’s something to see how the terrain really affects the mileage.. and the lunacy of the comments from people who say save what you burnt climbing the hills when you go back down the other side lol.

sure sounds like some hard pulls from the stop light… I don’t get that mileage dragging my dump trailer around, and I don’t even have a hybrid.

I have a platinum hybrid, only difference is 5.5ft bed. I'm still on my first tank (400 miles) but nearing the end. As of right now my dash says 21.2 mpg's with approximately 30/70 highway/city. I live in the PNW with a lot of hills. I haven't gotten on it yet but I definitely don't baby it nor am I trying to hypermile it or anything. Also, I have been in normal mode.

I don’t have the same set up as yours but it took about 2000mi before I started to see the mpg I see now. I followed the break in procedures and babied the truck and saw 11 to 14 mpg, and was worried just like you are.

For what its worth or if anyone cares.....

Just drove roughly 800kms from the prairies to the foothills of the Rockies and back [~1,700km]. Some stats:

    -Starting Elevation: 577m [1895ft]
    -Finished Elevation: 1,045m [3,429ft]
-Weather on drive out: ~26C w/ some calm tail wind off and on [13km/h or 8mph]
-Weather on the drive back: ~ 31C with once again a tail wind periodically [24km/h or 14.9mph]
-~100km driving within the city vs the majority highway
-Averaged 119-120km/hr [74-75mph] on cruise most of the time
-Tires are Duratracs 295/65R18's so odometer readout is out by roughly 1.5mph I think [Tire size website]

Rarely am I ever fortunate enough to get a tail wind both ways, or no wind...The trend is I am usually bucking it.

Round trip, I settled in at 13.0L/100km [18.09mpg_US]. Is that Good, is that Bad, smh, it is what it is I guess. It is better than my F150, that I know for sure!Fuel.jpg

thats great mileage. I only get about 11.5 city and 12.5-13 highway in my 2013 platinum. So far on my 22 1794 I am around 13-14mpg. I would be ecstatic to get 18!

Yes it is. For my 13 I drove it like a bat out of hell so it made sense. For my new one, I have been granny driving it. It is all stock. No lift, stock tires. 4x4 6.5' bed 1794 hybrid. I'm only at about 500 miles.
