Hi there. I had my bumper recall done today and we'll after I got home I noticed that the parking sensors were turned off. When I turned them on they say something about sensor malfunction see dealership. All of the sensors blink too. Anyone have this? Guess I need to set up a new appt. Blah.

 

Hmmm.... I'd have to do more research on that code. I'd start with the cal and see what happens

 

They probably left them un plugged.... yip bring it back

Thanks, that's what I thought. Still nothing in the freeze frame looked funky to me. Don't know why it would fault something.

 

Question for Toyota Mx Pro or anyone familiar with the following....so changing my oil myself for first time on my 2016 5.7 Tundra. I typically order a few different aftermarket filters for my vehicles in case one doesnt work out for whatever reason (which is rare). Unlike the original (old) filter...I noticed that a couple of the new cartridge filters are "loose" and not snug around filter cap perforated tube. Can or will this pose an issue, anyone else have similar results? Appreciate any thoughts on this.

 

So my right front passenger side parking sensor is non stop beeping at any kind of stop, it started after having the brand new truck for less then a week. Am I out of line for asking for gas or something for having to come in so soon after purchasing the vehicle?

 

@LOTSOFTOYS 2 parts...#1 '97 T100 3.4V6 fuel vapor pressure sensor giving code i forgot number...but its giving CEL n i need to pass inspection...also is it bad to be driving around? I did some research that toyota dont make that sensor anymore this true? Ther another part number or sensor to use?.... #2 also just replaced new brake booster with new master cylinder almost bout a yr ago drained old brake fluid n took air out from lines i bought from AutoZone top of line one they had just noticed a couple of times that brake pedal goes all way down to floor board got me scared cause i was on hiway exiting off ramp almost hit someone master cylinder is full of brake fluid no leaks what could it be???

 

Speedometer Problem - need advice from all you mechanics out there.

I'm finding lots of discussion about recalibrating a speedometer, but nothing yet regarding my issue.

I have a 2005 Tundra DC. The speedometer works accurately most of the time for short trips, but I can't trust it if I travel more than about 20 miles and have to use my GPS for backup. Sometimes I'll be going 70 and the speedo reads 70. Then I'll look down a few minutes later and it reads 85 or more while still going 70. If I come to a complete stop, it will still read 15 mph or whatever the difference was. If I shut off the truck and open the door, then start it again, it will reset to zero. Then it will be fine for a while and might decide to now read 60 when going 70. Most often it goes high, but sometimes low.

Dealer told me I needed to replace the speedo head for 2k+. I'm not buying that answer. Does anyone else have an opinion?

I wouldn't use aftermarket filters. Too many problems we'be seen

Sensor is on the fire wall right? Near the master cylinder... no idea if they make it or not, not a parts guy.

Sure sounds like u didn't bleed good enough or u bought a Shitty master cylinder.

Speedometer head? U mean the combo meter? That was gonna be my guess as well...

 

He used the word "head" but it sounded like he was talking about the whole shebang. I would've thought a speed sensor, but they said it was fine. Not sure how they would determine that, especially for an intermittent problem, but wanted another opinion.

 

Did you get the master cylinder and booster from Autozone, or just the lines? Offhand, I'd suspect the master cylinder's gone bad. I've never had good luck with Autozone parts. It's also possible that you have a bad fitting on one of the lines, but I'd expect a leak if that were the case. It could be pulling a little air in somewhere. It won't take much to make the pedal hit the floor. Be sure to get someone that understands anti-lock brakes to bleed the lines, some of those systems are a bit touchy.

 

Yes both from AutoZone...dont wanna pay oem from Toyota any other auto store you recommend? Dont see any leaks from lines to brakes

 

I prefer NAPA or O'Reilly. I've had good luck with both, Autozone not so much.

 

Huh... well there are ways to diagnose that problem. Kinda sounds like the speedo

Lotsoftoys, quick question and I'll try t keep it brief. 2016 SR5 Tundra with 49,000 miles. 1st, was driving down the road, applied brakes, and my dash board lit up like a Christmas tree with "Brake Controller Error". 2nd, had a Toyota dealership hook it up to the computer and they pulled codes (U0129) and (C0210). 3rd, I took the truck and changed the right rear speed sensor myself and all error messages went away. Lastly, now when driving the truck and I start coming to a stop I'm hearing noises, something engaging beneath my break peddle. Question: I have never once used the brake controller and only tow a single axle boat. Do I need to replace the brake controller?

 

It's all good. Wasn't upset and they did get me in a rental no cost so I was cool. Advisor was pretty awesome.

 

So I'm new to the tundra life and I don't know much about my truck it's kinda hard to fine things on the net and I want to know more about it. Like what all is in the rock warrior package

 

Hey Jace, I just put powerstop pads and rotors on my 2004 tundra 4x4 access cab. I used the Z36 version for extreme use and followed the bedding procedure very closely. I noticed when they get hot I have a lot more brake fade compared to my OEM's. I am wondering if I did not bed them properly and can I bed the pads again to improve the stopping after they heat up? I replaced all of the brake fluid about 3 mths ago.

I have an 08 SR5 DC without steering wheel controls for the stereo. Does anyone know if there is a wiring harness in the steering wheel for the stereo? If there is, I would go to a salvage yard and pull off a steering wheel that has controls and swap it out. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

 

Doesn't sound like it. No more lights aND no more codes? Can u pin point the noise better?

LOTSOFTOYS - If you are old enough to remember the old spring load door stops that we kids would flip because they made that particular sound to the point of driving our parents crazy. When I began to slow down, whether towing my boat or not towing anything and get below 15 mph I hear that sound along with what sounds like a cylinder engaging. The sounds seem to be coming from just to the left of below my accelerator pedal toward the driver side wheel. My truck seems to be stopping just fine.

Hey Jace, the mfr got back to me and told me to bed them again, but this time be a lot more aggressive on the five 40 mph to 10 slow downs and do them closer together than I did. The directions don't describe how much time between each slow down but he told me to do them one after another. The second bedding occurs 5 times at 35 to 5 but not as aggressive and not as close together. he said the cooling process is very important and I did that part at right at least.

The brakes are very responsive and smooth at least until I got mine pretty hot descending some hills here in Evergreen in traffic. Stopping took a bit of effort which led me to my question. I am gonna put stainless lines on mine too, the rubber ones I have are 13 years old with about 190k on them.

I am gonna bed them again tonight and will report back.

 

Hmmm... I know what noise your talking about but I'm not sure I've heard it on the truck. There is a spring on your brake pedal maybe that's making noise? But is your pedal pressure changing when the noise is happening or constant steady pressure?

The second bedding did the trick, I suspect the zinc coating really needs to get heated up so the resin from the brake pads can adhere to it and from what I read the zinc gets worn off from use. I ran it much harder this time and it brakes VERY well now.

 

How many variable speed sensors are on a 2005 Tacoma? Where are they located?

 

Trac control and ABS lights come on after about 10 mins of driving and stay on.

Truck is a 2013 CM 5.7 4x4 with only 32k miles.

My Navigation screen is also going from dim to bright back and forth pretty often. I know that that this function is linked to my head light switch. With the head lights on the screen stays in night mode. ABS and Track Control stays lit with lights on or off.

I also have had what feels like total electrical / engine power loss on several occasions now. At highway speed, getting on the freeway, just starting out from a light, at all driving conditions just out of the blue. I loose power for just a couple of seconds then the truck runs perfectly fine again all with no dash lights coming on. This is with the head lights on or off and also with the Trac Control / ABS lights on or off.

All of this started happening while I was pulling a trailer in Tow Haul Mode. I noticed that my Trac Control and ABS lights stayed on after switching out of Tow Haul mode. Power loss started happing a couple of hundred miles later.

I have looked all over the engine compartment for any rat / wire damage. Found nothing. Installed a brand new battery, checked all of my HID conversion wiring, nothing abnormal. No other dash lights have ever come on. Tuck has lost power with absolutely no dash lights on nor did any come on.

HID head light conversion was done a few months back. Thought maybe the HID's were jacking with the electrical system but can not find and visual indication of any kind of a problem. Also did the rest of the exterior lamps and interior lamps LED conversion and all wiring looks to be ok with all of that.

All of this was done a couple of months ago and I never had any issues.

I can't find any kind of electrical / wire issues anywhere on the truck.

Any help would be much appreciated.
