yep I’m Canadian too. So I know the price on my invoice rather well. Yes you’re right somethings are just they way they are. I get that. And yeah you can’t just take a different one on the lot. But at some point something needs to give I suppose

I think if it were a 40k vehicle these would be unacceptable. If the dealer does not make you happy contact Toyota USA.

I posted & realized you may not be in the US, so Toyota Canada.:p

General consensus is that I'm not too demanding and I think anyone would do the same if they were in my shoes!

Unless your last name is Buffett, Bezos, or Musk, $70k is a lot of coin to spend without being completely satisfied. I do wish you luck, and hope they strive to make it right for you.

I would agree for some brand new "rocket science" features. Screen and paint quality is not "rocket science" and therefore an unacceptable quality. For me, it sounds like there is a quality issue where the cars are produced (San Antonio, Tx?). Could be technical environment (e.g. paint booths) or lack of skilled workers... anyway, for me, this is not acceptable for new car with this price tag and I will inspect my new Tundra very carefully for such flaws before I accept/buy it.

If it runs and drives I don’t worry about. Problems are frustrating but not worth my time. There are lots of other vehicles out there but a picky person is likely to be as equally disappointed. My key to happiness…low expectations!

If I stop and think about it I have a couple of issues with my ford and my tundra. And after 2 years of ownership of the ford and 1.5 years with the tundra I’ve done nothing about it. Paint peeling off side steps. Doors that leak when it rains. Squeaks, rattles. Cameras that don’t work. Parking sensors that have a mind of their own. Fortunately I have mirrors that work and don’t spend long in reverse…I can just ignore it!

Well your truck is not "worth 70K plus" that is just what you paid lol. But I totally agree w/you. I am super anal about my vehicles and am currently looking at a 2022 Platinum Tundra but am really hesitant due to all these issues. Sold my 2020 Limited in anticipation of getting a new Tundra but just can't force myself to gamble on a new one just yet. Hopefully next year things will improve. Hope you get things resolved to your satisfaction but no way I want a brand new repainted truck

I like that attitude. Unfortunately my expectations raise with with what I spend. If it would be a “low budget” truck, my expectations would be low. But you should get what you pay for… and that’s where expectation and reality doesn’t sum up for me if this would be my truck…

In this market you’ll never ever get what you pay for. And overpaying doesn’t mean better product.

It's mind-boggling that people continue to buy these 3rd gens right now. I can't understand why even some members on this forum are still set on buying one. Maybe wait a year? Everyone's free to roll the dice, I guess.

I don't think you're too picky, I think Toyota has gone blind. They seem to have removed the quality control portion of the manufacturing process. I was just told yesterday by a service advisor that almost every issue they have seen should have been caught in QC. They had one Tundra with the rear seat half cloth and half leather !! I mean, come on Toyota!!

I can only repeat what I'm told, LOL....I fully understand every manufacturer, no matter the product, will experience some issues but Toyota has pushed well beyond the boundary of what's reasonable and acceptable. Reputations faulter much faster than they are earned, I wonder how long it will take for Toyota.

Valid concerns and I hope they are addressed soon and taken care of.

Mine has a few quirks, theres a wind noise, sounds like a buzzing from the passenger side at the front of the headliner. I took a video of it and sent it to a service department, they said its the molding at the top of the windshield catching wind, bring it in when you want, its a couple hour repair.
I have yet to do anything, it comes and goes at highway speeds, is not that annoying.

Thunk sound at the tail gate, no biggie, its a tailgate.

Guess thats really about it. Nothing major at least in my eyes. Your mileage may vary.

Personally, I'm with you in waiting for the kinks to get worked out. But on the other hand, if it weren't for these guys/gals that are willing to roll the dice it'd take a lot longer for issues to surface and get resolved if all the new trucks were just sitting on the lots. I do, however, think owners of first year after major redesign should get something from the manufacturer if/when they have problems. Kind of a "thank you" for helping sort out the growing pains. Free extended warranty, discount for future purchase, etc.

Toyota is doing the opposite. I was promised an extended warranty by a case manager due to how long my truck spent in the shop. Since several issues couldn't be rectified, the case manager closed my case and refused to provide the extended warranty due to issues being "unresolved". Seems crazy to me, the layman, not versed in such things. My case, which is opened due to problems, is closed because said problems can't be fixed and an extended warranty to cover such issues won't be provided because said issues exist....ok, got it!!

what In the hell man, lol. What?

you don’t get the extra warranty because there are known issues?

Isn’t that what the damn thing is for?

Is/was this for your 2022? If so, mind sharing what these issues are?

Toyota needs to step up to the game and back their clients, this for me is a huge red flag and totally unacceptable.

I'm not there yet with my cases, but I feel like it's the way it'll be going and won't be happy with the outcome

Well, I was told they built a truck painted black on 1 side and white on the other. Seems like QC would have caught that.

That sounds good in theory, but the only winner would be the dealership as they would mark the truck up over MSRP and re-sell it. In all honesty, I really like the truck; I love how it looks (no input from peanut gallery necessary), it drives great, and has every bell and whistle I could want.

I definitely wouldn't come out of a buy back as the winner. I have already looked into it. If it went smoothly and Toyota agreed, they claim to deduct for time owned, mileage, etc. So, right out of the gate, I'm losing money when compared to the initial investment. If I did get 100% of my money back, I'm then without a truck for God knows how long. It's not like a few years ago when I just go to a different brand and drive off the lot with something new. And, again, if I could do that, there isn't a truck that comes close to all the features of the 22 Tundra for the price. I don't visit the forums for other brands, but I'd imagine they are all about the same in this day and age.

I am hoping that switching to a new dealership for service will change my experience and opinion. At least this new dealership's service advisor is the first person to actually provide a logical explanation to my missing dimming mirror complaint. That's a good start. Today is day 2 they've had it for the new AC issue, we'll see how long they keep it before establishing that opinion.

Seems like a QC flop to me as far as the paint issues and pillars. My 2014 has almost 150k miles and has no box rattle, pillars are solid, only paint issues are from myself. So I know its a new generation but still seems like they should QC things better, especially with the reputation of reliability that these trucks have. If there past generations don't have these issues after 10 years, why are they having them now? :monocle:

Initiating lemon law actions forces Toyota to either make it right, or buy it back. Buy backs get reported and tarnish their reputation for QDR. They might surprise you how far they will go if there’s a prospect of losing a lemon law case.

    That's true.
My plan is to call case manager back after this service visit and say issues are resolved (for now), how about that extended warranty now.
