    Hello,

Happy owner of a Tacoma and wanting a full size. I told myself that I'd keep an open mind when I was serious about getting one. Had my sights set on an Ecoboost for a bit due to gas mileage. Been thinking lately about how well my Tacoma has treated me and decided I am stuck on a Toyota. I'm not in a serious rush and figure I will wait till the Tundras get a redesign. I'm willing to wait a couple/few years, hopefully no later than a 2020. Figured I'd hop in here to keep updated.

    John

I'm of the mindset to buy slightly used. 1 or 2 years old. Unless you want to trade up every 2 or 3 years which makes no sense unless you have money to burn even with high used trade in value. Was mentioned earlier here on the forum today that buying a used truck is buying someone else's misery. Uh...........Toyota...........Uhhh what misery would that exactly be??? Like the movie and I get my legs broken while chained to a bed misery?? My 10 year old tundra is doing just fine. 2nd owner. I have full history from day 1. Literally. Waiting for a redesign may be fruitless. I worked with a guy (X) for several years. I always upgraded my own computer no more than every two years. X would bring in every week a flyer usually from Fry's Electronics and go "Wow check these computer prices out". Me----"Are you going to get one????" X--"no....I'm going to wait for something better, maybe a better design, ram,HD, etc". Are you freaking kidding me??? X never bought a computer as long as I knew him. Probably still waiting for that elusive new earth shattering redesign. Major redesigns are clearly not in Toyota's 60+ year business model. 3rd gen Tundra's were a minor tweak in cosmetics not a true redesign /upgrade and in some cases worse...Got Storage? . IMHO...

I'm a new kinda guy... no real reason but just because. I guess if anything, I know how I've treated it.

As far a holding my breath for a redesign, point taken. It seems there is a trend of six years in a gen so we'll see when it gets to late 2019 and I'll make a decision.

Don't blame you on waiting for the next gen. I'd love to get a 3rd gen, but from what I've see , the cosmetics are a step up but the function is a step down like @matluth said - got storage??
I'm a fan of buying slightly used and using the one you have for a while. (That's how the rich get and stay rich in most cases I've personally seen)
The next gen may have some upgrades since Toyota's due - or should be. See what they come out with and go from there. Until then, enjoy!!

Agreed..although there are a lot of us out here that prefer the 2nd gen look over the "3rd" cosmetic changes. Not necessarily a "step up". Especially seeing how many here seem lose the front /rear bumpers, change grills etc.....on 2nd and 3rd gens. :mudding:

Welcome! Yeah...just hold out a few more years...the Tundra redesign will probably be 55-60k for a Platinum. :D

I plan on keeping mine for the really long haul. Trading out every three or four years does not fit my long term financial investment plan. I remind myself..vehicles are a depreciating thing and some faster than others that you rarely if ever get a financial return on.

You maybe better off driving the wheels off the Taco.:burnrubber:

My plans are to keep the Taco as a commute vehicle as I drive 110 miles to work and back, four times a week. The Tundra will be my baby and part of my wait is to get a little more finacially established at my new career. It just so happens if I wait a little bit I'll be doing better on money and hopefully will be around a big change for the truck. As far as return, it is most definitely something to spoil myself with for hard work.

Commute vehicles work! That's what I did, my 14 Plat only has 50k on it thanks to a commuter car. Retired now, no more commute, no longer "indentured" to the machine aka- work force. Sounds like you have a solid plan!
