tundra and f150 has very similar exterior dimension. So I wouldn’t pick f150 over tundra.

Toyota trucks have a great track record, Ford, Chevy and Dodge (to a lesser extent) require guys with wrenches to keep them going.

Well yes, but I definitely wouldn't trust a 3rd gen where I go right now though.... and that's not to bash the 3rd gen , I know there's alot of that going on right now..... but it's just a fact.

Where in the southeast r u driving that the trails are to small for the Tundra. I have taken it almost everywhere in the north GA mountains.

As others have said if Subaru's can do it and at times even lesser car can do it. Tundra is more than capable.

I’ll just say this - a trail being too small to fit and being too small to fit without touching some paint are two very different things. Can’t be scared of some pinstripes.

Totally agree with you @300BLK and probably others have said.. dont expect to buy a pageant queen and then think you will off road it and not have issues when the truck gets some paints strips. Any Toyota's are very capable if they have 4x4 and with Atrac they are very even better.. so you should be ok with buying one.. even if you do not mode it.. they will go a lot further than you think.. if you want take a buddy or with a group the first few times to know how far you can go with your Truck and then you'll get comfortable with the capabilities of it, then you can venture out alone when needed.

None to day....that’s why I’m here.
I guess a good example of what I am talking about is we took a spring trip in the George Washington national forest west of staunton VA. There is new growth pine trees and stuff rubbing both sides of the truck and that didn’t really bother me. My buddy was in a jeep in front of me and there were some tight curves on the side of the mountain. While he was going around one of those he collided with a adventure motorcycle. There was some minor injures and damage but it got me thinking. If I had to get help, there was no cell phone service, I would have had to somewhat blindly back up a long way, about 1/2 mile to get turned around. There was no way to get around them. If I was in my taco I feel like I could maybe have turned around if needed, there was no going around them unless you had a motorcycle.

Tundra will do it all day and in a lot of comfort. I guess what I am getting at is my feeling is smaller vehicle’s have an added degree of safety because of being more maneuverable.

Ran into this exact scenario today in the uintas. I was in the frontier and I went down some trails no way would I have taken my tundra. The frontier o. The other hand I actually took it down a side by side trail lol

So, I wanted to ask this earlier but I didn't want to sound like a huge noob but what are fire roads and how do I find them?

Look at a national forest map. Also referred to as Forest Service or FS roads.

So, the national forest in my area should have them? Would a state forest also have them?

Possibly - we don’t have state forests here so I’m not familiar. You can also use a private third party app like Gaia or OnX Off-road.

Gaia is probably good enough. I have 'em both but really only use Gaia 'cause that's what I started with and what I'm used to. I do think that ONX will probably exceed Gaia in the future as it's more "off roader" oriented and far better marketed.

We took a showroom stock TRD Pro through all of Broken Arrow at night without a scratch or hitch scrape in 2016 or 2017. Stock tires and everything, it was pretty impressive. I wasn’t driving it, the owner was and it was his first off road experience outside of the dunes.

I love this perspective and hope many see it and adopt it. For their children.

Mildly tongue in cheek, but very serious that this logic is sound and will help is keep access to protected lands.

I suck at names, and online everyone has several. Do I know you? Is that a Tomar lightbar inside your bumper? We have one in the bumper and one on the roof.

This one might be tough in 2wd even with a locker. Maybe doable, but before we went through it was only built Jeeps.

    https://youtu.be/y_IgGOXngZo

And as far as we know we’re the first Tundra to run Elvis trail in Box Canyon. This was a long time ago, so only the Taco and Runner guys wanted to play. Arizona Tundras have come a long way and many of them do harder shit than this now.
This is also a really illustration of ATrac at work when we go cross axle on two wheels.

    https://youtu.be/ga7uss_2Rkc

In general I mostly agree with you that locked 2wd is very close to unlocked 4WD. Our buddy Dragos (don’t know why I can’t tag him) was locked 2wd and he went all over with our group. Took the strap like a champ.

oooooh…. RWD class. I could support that. It’s my favorite way to run the cinders.

Also watch for the front wheel lockup under braking in this one from a few years ago. Pro tip: it’s the ABS1 fuse. Use that information at your own risk. Ya ain’t heard shit from me.

In fact I do almost all my go fast in 2wd because sideways is more fun.

from inside the 2022 TRD Pro at last years Tundras to Sedona. Good times. Good times.

    OHIO?!?!

Quit questioning it and get a Tundra.

Source: lived in Columbus for two years and wheeled a decent bit out there.

that shit do be gettin narrow tho. Don’t be askaired of the pinstriping. My wife has only one rule (it’s her truck): no body damage.

    Vinton county here:

Did pick up a nice new scrape on that one courtesy of the Jeep guys spotting us. But we knew what we were getting into.

Maybe it was a couple scrapes…

    https://www.instagram.com/p/CDKH2IGnwba/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

Wish I had footage of the climb to get to that descent. Of you’re familiar with the area, I think it’s called Rug Road or something like that.

I’m a big fan of rear lockers and might actually get one some day. When we regear for the 37s we’ve been running for five years. Probably. Or not. Maybe we’ll get sliders too. Probably. Or not.

This man speaks truth. We’ve never been unable to fit on a trail that Tacomas or 4Runners or FJs or any other “small” truck made it through. And we have the stripes to show it, but so do they.

I have a few Ohio groups I can send you that are mostly Facebook I think.

you’re sort of fucked in Ohio. Depending on what kind of wheeling you want to do. Public land is virtually nonexistent there. You can go to the AEP reserves. I forget exactly what they’re called but can send you more when I remember. There are a shitload of ‘access’ roads that kinda run on and between peoples property lines. They can range from boring dirt road to pretty gnarly climbs. I’ll send some stuff when I find it.

I think it is a regional thing. In addition to width I would add height as a limiter for the Tundra. It would require tons of limb trimming to get a lifted full size through the trails I'm familiar with.

Haven't crawled much but these things carry speed great, and the power on dirt roads is really fun. Handled smallish jumps even too with some upgraded suspension parts.

Y’all would be surprised at what smooth throttle input and left foot braking can do in some low traction situations…and more often than not, momentum is your best friend..
