Added another Honey Badger because why the hell not? Best budget friendly knife on the market in my opinion. This one has D2 steel and was 60 bucks. The ones with 8Cr13Mov are under 40.00.

I’m done buying knives for a while. I promise.

When it’s finished, you might need to start fishing more just so you can justify having it! lol

That blade is downright gorgeous! How does that bend/joint feel in the hand?

I cannot wait to see the other one you teased the blade profile of.

I think it’s a perfect fit in the hand. Very easy to use and comfortable

Finished this one today. The blade is only 19 layers, but it’s a good match for the cholla skeleton handle 0C4C953B-C9CA-49A2-AB28-4E2B94033821.jpg2EB7ED37-A6C1-44B7-BAAE-C7039156A86E.jpg1896D76C-D796-4AAB-9EA1-999759039DE5.jpg3F03FEB7-CB56-4452-88B1-4F7A57A87150.jpg

Thanks! Yeah, it’s a bit of a challenge and kinda reversed from the usual sequence of assembly. I had to shape the steel and brass to fit the shape of the cholla handle instead shaping the handle to fit the steel, lol!

Can anyone recommend a set of kitchen knives that don’t cost thousands of dollars that stay sharp but do not belong to a ****** star chef!:). I am so tired of dull knives and constantly having to sharpen them! There has to be something out there ???:)

Day 1: prep and weld 11 layers
Day2: cut into 4 pieces, add 3 extras, prep and weld = 47 layers
Day 3: cut onto 4 pieces, add 3 extras, prep and weld = 191 layers

thats just building the steel billet

No need for a full set. Have @gosolo make you a chef knife and maybe a paring knife. Buy a cheap bread knife. Done.

So, this morning I took this one from my inventory out for a spin. After 20 rabbits, it’s still sharp enough to shave with 8EA94B4B-75E6-47E3-8314-2D1D0C61BE95.jpg

Actually, I don’t think there is. All the stainless steel ‘sets’ are stamped and almost exclusively made overseas. Stainless steels are generally inferior to carbon, machine and tool steel but most people prefer to avoid maintenance. If you are set on your path, get as good a set as you can find at Costco and then add a high quality steel and learn how to sharpen them as needed.
I have had several people tell me how the first time they got a truly high quality custom blade they were absolutely amazed at the difference. Not only the initial performance but the length of time it stays sharp. Good luck with your search!

I've got a set of Gerber knives that I got 37 years ago. Still going strong, I also have a steel to keep them sharp.
I don't think they're made anymore, but you should be able to piece together a set from ebay and the like.
