Ok, so I saw this today and thought it was interesting...

Apparently the original Motel 6, which is in Santa Barbara, and charged $6/night 60 years ago is apparently charging $426/night this summer for the same rooms...

 

My wife has a little container pond on the back porch and every year she will add aquatic plants and a few $0.25 feeder goldfish to it, and every Fall (usually September) just as the plants are doing good and the goldfish are growing and looking nice, fucking racoons ( I blame @Outbound ) come at night and tear up the pond and plants and eat the fish.
I have tried many things like chicken wire or rocks, but the little shits still get through. So today I decided to bust out the welder and gather up whatever scrap steel I had on the side of the house to come up with a better solution.
Of course me being my usual idiot self and figuring it would be a quick job and maybe a few tack welds wore my usual safety attire of shorts, sandals, and a wife beater. Ended up being a bit more complicated and time consuming, so I'm pretty sure I gave myself a good arc sunburn. But, if the little trash pandas get through this, then they win, I give up.

 

It was nice of you to build them a grilling rack for the goldfish.

I wouldn't doubt it, those little fuckers are crafty.

 

Do you guys have swamp rats out there? Coatimundi?

 

All I've seen are pack rats, mice, racoons, and skunks

Na, you can tell it's the racoons, they totally trash the thing, cats don't do that. Last year I wrapped hardware cloth/chicken wire around the pond about 20" above it and they still fucked it up, a cat won't put that much effort into it. Plus you can tell when the racoons come cause they also fuck up my yard digging up the grass looking for grubs.

 

Kinda kills the pond 'feel', doesn't it??

 

That's why it's deigned like that, with legs like a table. When Fall comes, we will set it in place and attach it (probably with zip ties) to the handles on the tub. After the racoons leave for the year, it gets taken off. Also, why we'll use zip ties, easy and cheap to cut them off to clean it or during the day to enjoy the pond.

 

You could always electrify it and make homemade Raccoon caps...

 

I like the idea, but I have a feeling that the wife will tell me that I can't do that.

 

I had nothing to do with my cousins tearing up your pond. I don't even eat fish.
