Key option

My wife lost my second set of keys, so I was looking for options if I can have a key fob like the 4Runners and other Toyota cars. Is this doable with our truck or am I stuck with having a key and remote. I’ve search the forum and I can’t get a direct answer

I had one of these before I installed my compustar remote start. It's one of my spare keys now.

 

EDC style - the key folds in half for a key and fob all in one.

1st 2 locksmiths said it’s not possible but I said yeah huh. 3rd locksmith said sure NP and anyone who says it’s not possible is a newb.

 

Was the key fob a g chip too. Just worried nothing will program if I buy the new key

 

I did one of these a while ago. Have to make sure the letter on your key matches the one you buy and then you can even program it yourself if you buy the cable and install the software. I had mine cut at a locksmiths store no problem or excuses. It wasn't perfect and wouldn't turn the ignition so I had to gently file a tooth down a bit and programmed it in techstream myself... done.

I started to try to buy it myself but could tell I was in over my head so I just worked directly through the locksmiths.

he showed me a picture (via text) of what key he could get and program. I said OK and he ordered it. Once it arrived a few days later I met him and he programmed it. I paid like $150 for the key and the, cut, and the programming. (Tampa).
