I didn't mean to come across as angry with your comments. Had just been a day...

I need a vehicle that's better suited to my family. I love the SS but it's not exactly a great family vehicle with the amount of stuff that I need to haul around. The opportunity cost of waiting is the time spent with a vehicle that's a total pain in the ass (even if it is a fun, Australian M5, pain in the ass). Are there plenty of people out there raising kids in smaller cars than a SS? Of course.

As far as it being a depreciating asset, show me a vehicle you can buy that's not going to depreciate. Almost all of them will depreciate faster than a Tundra... Or, show me a vehicle that fits my needs that I can get under MSRP. I'm paying cash, not paying markups and buying the longest extended warranty I can. For all I care, my family can bury me in this truck. As a result, whether or not it's a depreciating asset doesn't matter to me right now. I think I can drive it for a decade or more and still probably recoup half or more of my investment. That's an investment I'll take.

I can appreciate what you're saying. I'm normally pretty frugal and level headed (CPA & CFP). However, at some point you have to bite the bullet. Even you alluded to paying for packages or stuff you don't want. I'd really be surprised if very many trucks are leaving the ports without any options. It's also worth mentioning that when I build a similar Ford or GM, it's $5-10k more.

For whatever it's worth, I'm not paying a markup. Just $1600 worth of gun safes and dashboard cams. I'm also flying and buying to save money over paying a dealer markup? Is it the same thing? Practically speaking, yes.

Can you justify any financial decision? Of course. It's why ARMs, leases, credit cards exist. What I'm trying to say is this: As long as I'm trying to buy a vehicle in the status quo, I'm not getting out of this unscathed. Pick the mode by which you'd preferred to get screwed and roll with it.

My local dealer aside from being awful to deal with also wanted a 12k markup so looked around and found a dealer about an hour away that had a Supersonic Red Platinum L 6.5ft bed at MSRP that wasn't claimed yet "late April" and after all the accessories ext warranty taxes ect it's coming out to around 88k CAD befor trade in. But still waiting and got an update today that it's still showing in production on their systems and the wait is getting to me lol. Didn't help I saw basically the exact same truck with a short bed a few weeks ago and the colour is fairly similar to my 2014 Camaro

Inquired locally here in SATX about a TRD pro they just put on their site. Bad news is it sold for 100k, good news is I know where I'm going if I wanna sell my TRD pro I'm picking up in AZ. They have a capstone for 109k too.

    53k MSRP +1800 in options + 2500 markup + TTL = $61,920 OTD

TRD OR Premium 57 miles. Dealer tinted front windows for free.

After driving it for 2 days, it is well worth it. I went to 8 different dealerships here in DFW and most were charging 10k markup. I negotiated one down to 2500 so I got on their list for the one i wanted. 2 months later I get a call that deal on the truck I wanted fell through so they were offering it to me. I couldn't get up there fast enough lol.

The only dealership that had inventory was charging these markups. INSANE!
    All under limited = 10k
    Limited = 15k
    1794 and Platinum = 20k
TRD PRO and Capstone = 30k

They don't even try and hide it. Their website has plenty of Tundras with the dealer markup included.

No, the salesman had no shame giving me the price when I asked the price of the Capstone’s

On the bright side, they do have two Capstones, a Platinum, and a bunch of other SR5s.

Got mine in February. Limited Crew Max 4x4. $57125 MSRP+TTL. Dealer said he wasn’t going to rip people off, because he had to sell Toyotas when all this was over. No upcharge. You don’t hear that often these days.

My buddy in Tx just got a 1794 at MSRP+$7500 upcharge.

What I hate the most is dealership posting msrp on their website you call the dealership and they say come over we’ll get you the best price compare to other dealerships, I went and the first thing I noticed was a bunch of bs added to the truck like elo gps for 3k and other bs for another 3k and markup for 15k on a platinum I force max for a total of 21k in markup no wonder why is been there for 4+ Weeks

Alamo Toyota in San Antonio, prob the worst dealership I've ever seen. "Sorry we sold that pro at $90k but we can get you on the list for the next one." "No thanks, I'm not looking to pay that." "Well come in and we can talk price." Yeah I'm not falling for that 4 hour waste of time trap.

Not the same dealer, but Same thing happened to me they have a pro coming and said come over and we can talk about price I said no my time is worth more Than your pro you can keep it.

I want to add that the dealership (different dealer I was talking about the platinum) I got my limited had a pro coming too at the same time I got my limited and they are no taking deposits on pros is first come which I think is fair i was late by a few hours otherwise I would have ended up with a solar octane pro.

I have a deposit down on 1794 CM 4x4 I force Max. It has the advanced pkg and a few other options. Dealer is charging 5k for all iforce max vehicles except for capstone trim. Compared to the other dealers in central Florida that is a deal. I have had some dealers tell me I can't pay cash and have to finance. I asked them is the rate 0.0%.... what a joke. Dealers allocations of hybrids are few and far between. Sitting in a dealership now have my truck serviced and there are No 22 Tundras on the lot. Hoping I can justify the 5k over MSRP with a little more money for my trade in. Might sell direct. Crazy times.

Hybrids are really starting to creep up in price now. They are good for maybe another 50 miles on tank of gas.

Dealer adds $1,695 for Window Tint, nitro in the tires and door guards. Told them I don't want it. They said that is their way of marking up.

@Chvman98 I paid $1000 under invoice for my 2020 in March 2020. I have never paid sticker for a vehicle and its killing me on the 2022! On the flip side the 2020 got totaled and insurance paid 8K more than I paid out the door and it had 35K miles.

um toyota tundra oem ext warranty doesnt come in a 5/75 plan especially at $1200 price point. a 5/80 comes in at $530. you need to go look in the extended warranty thread so you can get info on a oem toyota warranty at a favorable price.

I was initially quoted 6/85 for 3500. For 5 years, i got the quote of 1200 with 75K validity. As I was with him and could check his screen - he was able to make a custom quote with selecting the duration and mileage from drop downs.

Even though it was slightly higher than what was there on the other thread - I think I am still at peace.

just making sure you know the numbers. for $1200 you could have picked up a 8/100 for that price. also validity may not be honored at all toyota dealers, where as a toyota oem would be across the usa.

$60,678 for my limited. Even with a BIL at the dealership, MSRP is best they could do. When we got the Corolla 4 years ago they did $500 over invoice. I miss those days.

Anyone that finds a dealer in SATX or outside of the state (I will drive) that is selling a limited at true (MSRP) please let me know. The home of the Tundra is also the home of crooked dealers!

Toyota of Denton markup is only $2500 but they don't have any on their lot. They are usually sold before they get to the dealership. You can call them and tell them what you want. They will call you when they have one coming in. They will also call you if they get someone that backs out. That's what happened to me. The guy that waited 8 months for his truck to come in backed out when it came in and they called me. I couldn't get to the dealership any faster lol.
