First, Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)!

The sensors should beep when you get fairly close to an object behind you, or off the corners of the front of the truck. The indicator behind the steering wheel should indicate where an object is being detected.

Is the little light on the switch on? Easiest way to check is to back up towards a garage door. It should start beeping the closer you get to it. With an eventual solid tone. If not, get a hold of Toyota to have fixed under warranty.

mines never worked properly on my 2016, even the dealership couldn't re-produce the problem.

The rear ones are not much help since there is a camera but I do like having the front ones for pulling up close to things. There is an indicator on the dash that has lines on how close you are and it beeps faster the closer you get. Only issue with them is in the winter when it snows and ice gets stuck to the bump you have to shut them off or they will just beep non stop.
