i took my 15 Limited in for a oil change and rotation yesterday. I've been going to this dealership for over ten years, and they've always done right by me. Well, the service rep there I had never seen before, and as it turns out was new, said that I'm due for the 30k service. (28.5k on the truck). I said ok. Well being a little hungover from too much barbecue, bourbon, and beer the night before, didn't realize the additional dealer services added. (Read profit). The service guy never said to me things like throttle body clean, brake fluid change, both diff change, were recommended and not part of the Toyota scheduled maintenance.
I got home, checked the link to maintenance schedule (thanks tundras.com) and immediately called to cancel the other services except the diff change. Long story short, I was too late to change anything as that work was completed. Spoke to the service manager who I like, and he likes me, about the guy telling me this is a 30k service without indicating the extra dealer recommendations. He was great and offered to make it right by offering to take 100.00 off the bill. I countered with putting on a Sequoia front stabilizer for free. He agreed. How did I make out? Was that better than 100.00 off of a 600.00 service? Just trying to "unscrew" myself.

oh yeah, you got way ahead then!

your buddy made up for it!

brand new sway bars go for about 150-200+, plus labor (i'd estimate about 100 bucks at most for an hour - shops like to round up. e.g. one hour for 30 minutes of labor)

Any idea what that would cost dealer installed?

dealers are different, but I wouldn't be surprised if it came out to be 300 total. At least $250, that's pretty much a guaranteed price right there.

Thanks Law. Btw, I don't tow or haul right now, I will in the future though. Was the front and rear diff fluid change necessary at 28k? No off roading either. I figured it couldn't hurt since its never been done.

Hmmm... no mention of throttle body clean. B.S? Or is there something to it?

Throttle body cleaning is a good service. Can be done yourself but you need to be careful to not damage it.

Seems you came out ahead on this. The sway bar upgrade put you over the top. It's good to know what the dealer is going to do,and how much. One of our onsite vans was taken in for scheduled maintenance a couple years ago. Over $900.

Color me skeptical but did you check to see that some of the services they added on were done? I've heard too many stories where a dealership would say they did X but upon the truck owner inspecting what was done they see there were no witness marks and such (eg. service saying they greased the driveshafts but if you look and see there is still paint on the zerks then that means they lied to you).

Otherwise, if they really did do all the extra service, you scored.

Nice! Glad your guy made it right.

What benefit does the Sequoia sway bar offer?

The Sequoia bar is the same OD as the tundra front sway bar but thicker wall and smaller ID. Which makes the bar stiffer. Helps with handling.

I got a sequoia sway bar for mine brand new from a guy that decided not to put it on his truck for $70. Keep your eyes on CL, there are deals to be had. Or hit up @Roman for one, it's around $125-130 from him. It took me less than half an hour to put it on. It does help with the handling. The trd rear sway bar makes more of a difference since you are going from none in the back. With both the handling is quite impressive for a big heavy lifted truck.
