Hi everyone, I have a question and need some help. Just bought two Carven TR 3in mufflers for my 2015 tundra, and I just went to a muffler shop and asked for a quote to get everything installed. He said I’ll be losing HP and etc! Is that true? I understand a lil HP and torque, but will it be that dramatic? Or am I over exaggerating! I don’t want to mess up my truck. Your advice and opinions are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
But I already bought the mufflers and etc. I like dirty deeds exhaust, but $1500 is out of my price range. Is the muffler shop correct about putting in carven mufflers and going with 3in pipes

    Dam!
Is it dramatic loss in HP and low end torque?
    Or is it something minor?

Are you trying to do dual 3” tailpipes?

    Yes.
I was going to cut off the Tundra muffler and go true dual, two Carven TR 3in mufflers, and do 3in piping.
Seen YouTube videos of the same Carven set up, but not much feed back. The Carven mufflers come in 2.5in and 3in, and I picked the 3in. Now I'm thinking the 3in was a bad decision.

If you can exchange the 3" for 2.5, you'll be closer to stock size pipe. Stock sized pipe is what you need for your engine to be as efficient as possible.(As per Mr. Carty:D)

3 inch will kill the backpressure the motor is designed to run with. You'll lose power, but how much is debatable. Going duals causes a small loss as well, even with the TRD Dual from Toyota. That's likely small enough you wouldn't really feel it, though. Combining large pipe and duals... I think you'll notice.

I’ve run stock, 8 and 12 inch BAM, TRD duals and TRD duals with h pipe. I have no experience with 3 inch aftermarket set ups. For reference, the Trd pipe diameters are 2.25 inch into the muffler from the mid pipes and 2.5 inch after the mufflers.

Keith says the torque loss is felt maintaining speed in high gear - not necessarily during acceleration. Honestly, the dual TRD may have felt a little softer maintaining speed between 50 and 60 mph, but it was nothing dramatic. No gear hunting or anything like that. Adding the H pipe to the TRD system made it feel exactly like stock and BAM to me.

Again, I can’t personally speak to the custom setup you’re thinking about, but dual 3 inch would probably impact low end torque negatively. If you’re set on this route, try to copy the TRD pipe diameters and add a crossover pipe. Keep in mind, the system will drone without some kind of resonator - the drone may or may not bother you depending on how sensitive you are to that.

I posted this in the other thread you asked the question in so I'll include it here:
    https://www.tundras.com/threads/is-2014-or-2015-tundra-a-reliable-truck.110537/#post-2863832

"Loss of low end torque going to a 3” dual system.

Edit: Also, after seeing the pic you posted with the snow, that means you have road salt. Cutting the muffler or any of the exhaust piping to weld in some new mufflers or tail pipes will insure that your muffler & piping falls off in 2-3 years. Ask me how I know. Lots of guys on the forums selling a BAM muffler setup after swapping for a different size (going 10" to 6" or visa versa based on their needs). Not sure if you just want the sound or the look of true duals, but give Keith a call. He can at least tell you what you're looking for and then you can see if you can find it here or on FB groups, etc."

    Too many, but not enough....
If you care about performance, dont do the install. If you dont really care about performance, im sure it will sound badass. I would also suggest talking to Keith at DD and trying to return that Carven if you do care about performance.

Dude, you can do that in your driveway in 30 minutes.
    I just did it Monday...

Although you might want to soak your bolts overnight.
Mine had only been together 2 weeks.

    ^ This..

Another concern is the possible drone created with the Carven TR and 3" pipes.
I first had a Magnaflow that had the drone from hell.
Went with Keith's BAM @dirtydeeds and never looked back..

@Fabian, it may cost a little more, but it is well worth it.
Besides that, his customer service is second to none..

Keith does have sales from time to time.
    Current Sales (dirtydeedsindustries.com)

The BAM is bolted into OEM pipes.
No cutting, no welding, you can always put the stock muffler back in if needed.

No way I'd let a local shop hack my exhaust pipes.
At least they were honest with you about the losses.

Right they do look long. I don’t see anything longer that 12” on his site.

With the 12” are you running the resonator as well?

Yes, pipes that big on a stock tundra will lose some torque

He will custom make anything one needs.
I'd guess that long BAM does a lot of towing.

I've had the resonator for years..
    First had an 8, then a 10, now a 12..
