Post your trim level and location - there are differences between SR5 and limited/plat/etc, as well as the Canadian versions that I believe are always on.

I have the SR5 TRD Off Road Package (4X4). I see the Auto feature. I assume that this is just a standard feature to all vehicles in the past 20 yrs.

The auto feature controls the headlights only. Meaning the lights you see on during the day are the daytime running lights (DRL). The auto feature will detect low light conditions and turn on the headlights, taillights, and illuminate the dash.

If you don't want the DRLs on you have to switch the selector to the off position.

The sensor that the lights use to determine if it's day or night is on the dash and if you have something covering it and your lights are in auto, your headlights will be on instead of your DRL's

Gotcha! This helps...Makes sense now why the DRLS's our a bit dimmer than the night. I was really looking to have NO lights at all (including the DRL), and have my lights switch at dark.
Thanks, I'll post what I see in plain daylight.....

If you have access to Techstream or Carista, you can disable the daytime running lights. You should then be able to use the auto setting and have the lights turn on at dark but not have the DRLs on during the day.

Or just disable it in the radio setting. :)

All cars in Canada have full time DRL and can’t be turned off it’s our safety requirements. Here’s my settings and switch.

Super helpful, I was trying to figure out the same thing (lights were always on)… didn’t know the sensor was right where I put my hat so it was covered. Appreciate you all!
