Hey guys, been searching and have come up on some older threads on the matter but nothing more current.
So I’m looking to upgrade my 2019 limited to the trd pro grill but spending the extra 300 bucks on the tiny garnish kinda hurts…a lot.
I’ve seen some non OEM options on Amazon and eBay but have read conflicting things about them working. Some say they’re great and others say they’re trash.

Have any of y’all used these aftermarket options when you upgraded your grills? If so did they work or what did you do to make them work?

What about just relocating it like @2020Platinum did with his Royalty Core grill?

I was in the same boat, I could justify the new grill and all the other crap I wanted, but paying so much for that little thing felt like I was getting ripped off. But honestly, after looking at the (lack of) other options and the fact that I still wanted my safety sense to work, I just bit the bullet. I didn't want to deal with the hassle of such an important part not working or failing when I might need it the most. It's a rip off, but one less thing I had to worry about so I ended up just going OEM. Keep your eyes peeled for deals or free shipping from alot of the local dealers. Sorry I couldn't be much help finding other non OEM options.

I’ve been thinking I’m gonna have to do the same thing or go with the sport grill honey comb option which I really like as well. Sucks that Toyota charges a nut for things like this.

 Holy shit!! This might just be what I’m looking for. If I do decide to go with the pro, I will definitely update as to if this hack worked for me. Thanks

I went with the 2018 pro grill on my 2019 and used the AJT relocation bracket at a fraction of the cost. I like the 2018 grill better than the honeycomb and the AJT bracket (although not perfect) has worked pretty well except in heavy rain or snow, but I'm not sure the Toyota mount would have been any better.

Sucks after spending the money to do it right. That was with stock suspension too. Just leveled it now, two weeks after the grill. Was hoping it may recalibrate on its own being at an angle closer to what the TRD pro is but not holding my breath

Wait so you got both both the grill and the sensor cover OEM and it still gave you issues? That sucks! The hell..

Thanks Ceezurin. Yes all factory oem parts and got the warning. I’m hoping it resets on its own. I’ve read a few threads where it’s just gone off. A friend who’s an auto tech says sometimes vehicles don’t agree with any of the safety sensors getting unplugged and need to get reset. That’s crazy if you ask me someone can’t do a little work on their vehicle without setting off the sensor and have to go to a dealership to reset. He’s going to try and do it next week with his computer. I’ll let you all know if it works

I just bought the cheapest one on EBAY, and separated the two pieces. Cut the center of it out with a Dremel, then used 3m double sided tape to put it back together. It's been working great so far with no problems.

This right here is the solution I was needing! Thanks for the “hack” hack haha, pulling the trigger on the pro grill today.

If ya have any trouble with the aftermarket pieces and have any questions on what I did, shoot me a message!…I’ve had countless viewers do this after I made that video and everyone I’ve talked to said it worked like a charm with no issues!…mines still goin strong, not a single error code, good luck my friend!

So update time. I went ahead and bought the trd pro grill but got the cheap eBay garnish and did the @Teebo502 hack. The sensor never missed a beat and has been working flawlessly.

Some of the hacks in here look pretty solid! I've been through 3 TSS garnishes since stepping up to the TRD Pro grille. The first 2 both delaminated almost instantly. I have this one now, and it definitely seems to be a little better built. It has text stamped in the rear plastic which tells me it wasn't from the same place as the others, and even came with properly sized star push nuts!

Are you guys un hooking your batteries before disconnecting TSS and removing the grille? A friend of mine in the business thinks i might’ve triggered the code because I didn’t unhook my negative first. He recently used his scan tool and cleared all codes but my cruise control still wouldn’t work and a week or so later the code came back up on the dash

I didn’t unplug mine, actually come to think of it I never have when dealing with the sensor. My cheap tss garnish is still going strong, zero codes or issues

Kind of wished I saw this thread prior to buying the real oem tss sensor cover. Would have saved over $300 How hard was it to do the modification.

It’s beyond easy just a little tedious depending on how bad your perfectionism is. Only things needed were adhesive remover, a plastic pry tool and a dremel.

How’s this garnish holding up? Did you do any mods or just use it as is? I just bought one. Thanks!
