I have an issue with my 2015 1794 5.7 crewmax. When I try and switch to 4x4 the light flashes on the dash but won’t go into 4x4
I can hear a noise like it’s trying but still won’t go in
The code when scanned was (P279E 4wd range signal circuit range performance )???

is the issue the actuator? Does anyone know?
can you undo the actuator and manually switch it to 4wd? To test the transfer case switch? I’m about to swap out the transfer case oil to straight 75W as I think it has 75w-85 in it?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

So found this per code P279E: Wire harness or connector
    4 wheel drive control ECU
    Transfer Position Switch
I'll see if I can upload wire harness and test procedure with Multimeter..

    Thanks that would be great
Some say just replace the actuator
I’d like to know if it’s unbolted but connected to the wires if you turn the switch will it function and go back to original position?
Eg if removed while in 2wd position

and I guess while removed is there a test procedure for the transfer case shaft?? Thanks

Been trying to upload the troubleshooting testing procedure and it won't upload. I'll keep trying..

Thanks so much I believe this will come in really handy
    I think I had a breakthrough today
I changed my transfer case oil to straight 75w
It was a task finding this here in Australia but I got it
Whilst I was under the truck I put the ignition on and selected four-wheel-drive
I tried to turn the shaft that runs between the transfer case and the front and it was locked to my way of thinking this indicates that the transfer case actuator is working and the problem is the front differential actuator
I need to get it up into the air on a to post hoist so I can do the same thing and then try and spin the wheels I think I’m getting closer to solving the issue
Reading all of the forums I’m actually a little bit shocked that such a modern Toyota has quite a few issues with regards to 4x4 actuators and the design at hand
My old car which I still have is a 1999 Lexus LX 470 it is done a zillion kilometres and still does not have an issue
