Nominal increase from 32.5 to 34.6", or 6.5%. Did you include that? If not, that bumps you up to 14.3. Your profile photo looks like they are sticking way out, which would be bad for aero. Also if this is city driving, and you have a lot of stops, that will be a hit. Lastly, Ridge Grapplers probably suck for rolling resistance, but not all ATs do.

Do you have decent before and after data?

I just drove from Jacksonville to Orland Florida and back - total distance was approx. 330 miles - maily flat with a few hills here and there....drove at around 75 mph and by truck computer it said avg. was 19.5. Did the hand calculation and it came out at 20.4....

This is the first vehicle I've ever owned where the vehicle's fuel mpg calculation was low. My last fill up the truck said I got 18.5 and when I did the math on actual miles driven versus fuel added it came out to 19.6.

Here's the link I was referring to.

    https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a15388892/the-truth-about-epa-city-highway-mpg-estimates/

It's an interesting take that I wasn't familiar with. The TLDR is that it's complicated and the EPA doesn't have the funding to do what it wants and relies on a lot of 3rd parties.

Yes - same here....I've also noticed the fuel gauge seems to be out of whack somewhat...fuel gauge indicated I had a 1/4 tank left - went and filled it up and it only took 16.5 gallons - so a little over 1/2 tank was actually used instead of 3/4's...

I have been checking on my last couple of days drive to work. I am hitting just about 20 mpg with cruise set at 80 and on eco.

I just reached 500 miles on my TRD Pro (hybrid). The first 200 miles averaged between 13-14 mpg in normal mode with mostly city driving. I am now getting around 16 mpg in eco mode with mixed driving. Far cry from the 20 mpg I was hoping for, but I guess it’s still in the break-in period, right?

I have been averaging around 21-22 at best. Did get 24.4 on a 30 mile trip from time started it up till time shut it off it read 24.4. But think road conditions played a big role in that trip. Because time before to same location show 23.1 when shut it off. This is running speed limit plus 5 or so.

First got it would not get over about 20.

Is it all downhill from the gas station you filled up at to where you took that picture?

Just did an experiment towing this weekend. I decided to run premium 92-94 octane fuel with no ethanol. Family of 4 loaded truck with 4000lb trailer. Sr5 off-road Crewmax with stock LT Trails.

Drove a total of 1100km through the north cascades highway in 43c (109f) with the AC cranked and returned along the Coquilhalla in BC at about 35c (95f). Mostly used the cruise control and kept my speeds to 80-90km (50-54miles).

overall I got 17.7l/100km (13.3mpg) which is 2l/100km (1.3mpg) better than a similar drive I did earlier on regular 87 that did not have nearly the same heat nor elevation gains. I think I could have gotten better if I didn’t use the cruise so much on the climbs definitely if it wasn’t so hot.

overall pleased with that gain, about a 10% fuel economy gain for about a 10% increase in fuel cost. So a wash financially but I like to think it’s likely better for towing.

Going to keep running premium for the next couple tanks not towing and see if I get any additional gains or if it’s only worth it for towing.

Just took a roughly 400 mile round trip. Mostly 60-75 mph highways from KC to Tulsa and back. Fuel economy said 22.1 when I pulled into my driveway. Was driving in comfort mode for most of the trip. My usual driving habits are local city/neighborhood driving and I average around 16.5, so this was a nice treat.

Posted this in the towing section, too.

Been experimenting using cruise control while towing our camper with over 10,000 miles on the Tundra’s odometer at the end of this trip.

Tundra’s on board MPG indicator is accurate and was used for the following two test using cruise control. Both of the following test were over 300 miles each on interstate/4 lane highways.

2022 2WD SR5 Tundra with street tires on Tundra & Camper. TV tire pressures 40 PSI and Camper’s tire pressures 50 PSI. Camper's weight between 4900 to 4950 pounds with empty grey and black water tanks. Rig weight is around 10,900 pounds. Check Rig & TV/Camper weights periodically with CAT scales.

Set cruise at 63MPH yielding 61MPH GPS speed. Tow haul mode used with 7th gear. Engine speed was 2150 RPM.

During the test while climbing a 5% grade reduced speed to 55MPH and dropped down to 6th gear.

One way test from Crossville TN (TN plateau area) to Denver NC (300+miles) yielded 15.8 MPG.

Round trip from Crossville TN to Howenwald TN and back to Crossville (300+ miles) yielded 15.5 MPG.

Should see better MPG in the flat lands, will see.

I don’t know how so many people are getting 20 up to 22-24. I have a 4x4 non hybrid, leave it in eco mode, and drive it like a grandpa and I’m lucky to get 15-16. My first tank was 20mpg but it was 100% freeway.

Don't feel bad. I have a non-hybrid 1794 and I am averaging 18-19, but that is mostly freeway with cruise set at 75mph in Eco mode. When I tow my boat, I am lucky to get 10mpg. I envy some of the gas mileage posted here.

I drive 3 hrs from NJ to York Pennsylvania. This is 65-75 with some serious pedal discipline. My truck is completely stock and it improves greatly after the 1000-1200 mile mark. I was only seeing 19-20 then.

Drove about 960 miles during July (not towing) in one day from Howenwald, TN to Denver, NC round trip back to Howenwald and got 22.5MPG running the speed limit mostly on I40 with cruise control on. Majority of trip speed limits were 65 to 70MPH except for Knoxville area was 60 to 65MPH and NC/TN mountain area 55 to 60MPH. Very pleased with the 22 Tundra's power and economy. Both of my trucks are 2wd with over 10,500 miles on the 2022 Tundra and over 192,000 miles on the base 2003 2.4L manual 5 speed Tacoma we purchased new for $12,500. We like Toyota trucks!

So from what I’m understanding, MPG gets better the more miles on the odometer? I seem to be one of the unlucky ones. Approximately 15 mpg so far on my first tank of gas.

My first tank was 11.7 so you’re doing fine. The mpg on this truck is more sensitive to both fuel octane and driving habits than previous ones. I’ll ave about 16.5 if the tank has been driven locally for a good portion and 18.5 if it’s mostly highway. I’ve seen as low as 11 on local trips and 20.5 on highway ones. I can’t seem to keep the eco meter from going into the white anytime I step on the go pedal.

Find the worst mileage to be when the engine is cold and stop & go driving around town. On the highway finding the best MPG in drive (so far) when not towing in south eastern US.

Found using 7th gear at around 62MPH with cruise control activated in South East US to be a good combination for towing a 4900 pound trailer 9'6" tall and 7' wide. Using regular 87.

We have stock Yokohama Geolandar 18" street tires at 40PSI that work fine on our 2022 2WD SR5.

Best round trip MPG so far (600 +miles) was 24.5MPG at interstate maximum speeds, 60 to 70MPH.

Best trip MPG towing (300+miles) above trailer in NC & TN interstate foothills/mountain areas in 7th around 62MPH with cruise on is 15.8MPG.

When taking off, very easy on the gas pedal for best MPG.

The more you stay out of boost, the better the mpg.

I have a 22 TRD PRO w/ 2000 miles now. First tank 16.2, second 18.5, third 19.1, last 18.3- overall, run in Eco mostly, the 19.1 tank I was pretty easy on the pedal and made a few trips to work at 65mph on the interstate, 75-80 coming home. When going 65mph on cruise i have 2 declines where its all electric for a couple miles, also all electric for the 1.5 miles into the neighborhood on flat ground, speed up to 30mph. In regular everyday driving I will be in the 18.3-18.7 range is my prediction without doing anything special.

Have you noticed much difference on higher octane fuel? I've logged each fill up since I bought the truck. entered both the computer indicated MPG and a calculated MPG with milage and gallons. Fortunately those two numbers are usually very close, less than 0.5 mpg difference, max. Usually more like 0.2 - 0.3 mpg.

I just ordered some TRD high Pro air filters. Will start tracking that to see if I get any increase, but then also considering changing to 93 octane.

Anyone with data on MPG increase on 93 octane on here? I searched and found mostly threads saying to just use 87...

IDK how you guys are getting such low numbers. I'm getting unlimited mpg's in mine. I turn the truck off and when I come back and start it for the next trip that needle magically goes back to full.

There was a boss at work that bought a Volkswagen Rabbit Diesel many years ago. He would brag about how good his fuel economy was, so some of the guys (we were in a industrial machine rebuild shop) would go out daily and add fuel to his tank. He continued to brag about how unbelievable his fuel economy was in the Rabbit. After a while the guys started siphoning a little fuel out daily and he came in complaining about how terrible his fuel economy was and did not know what happened. :)
