That foto #2 and #3 completely bogs my mind. That wall is in the air. Is the roof that sturdy that I can hold all that weight? I mean all those walls, being suspended in the air, that is some serious weight!

How do you install baseboards if there will be almost 2" movement?

Agreed, I haven't seen anything like that on socar or fl either! My logical part of the brain is thinking, if the whole slab is reinforced and moves up or down as one single piece together, why not just have it as a foundation and let the walls be built on that slab? Let the whole thing as a whole move up and down.

Is the slab separate construction from the foundation?

:pprobably driving @T-Rex266 nuts with all these questions..

Would move too much. Think of things that meet or attach to the house, stairs, driveway, decks, etc… Be trip hazards everywhere depending on the season. Slab is separate so it can float, foundation is engineered, helical piers etc. are common. Expensive to build a house in Colorado.

Idk if any of these pix help

baseboards, just goes on top. In the four years we have lived here (built new) I don’t see a difference in the baseboards

if I go out front, I can see a little bit of shifting in certain areas (backyard slope as example) but it’s hard to notice and still “in compliance”

Baseboards attach to the green plate attached to the floor only. They cover the gap and allow the up and down of the slab to be hidden. Door frames are attached with slots allowing the frame to go up and down, door trim is only attached to the frame allowing it to slide up and down. Huge pain in the butt, almost impossible to do the doors correctly.

Did some adulting today. Been sick of looking at my fence with all the rot and such. Too the pressure washer to it today. Only got maybe a 1/3 done today. Will finish and then need to stain it.

I’m going to build a mostly underground greenhouse. Being mostly buried, it will keep it cooler in the summer and warmer in the spring and fall. Should make for a longer growing season.

It’s taken a few months, thanks to the joys of having a day job, three week vacation, those weekends with lack of enthusiasm or better things to do blah, blah, blah, but I can finally see the end of the first major honey-do job on the list since we moved into the place a year ago. It’s not as though I haven’t done a load of snotty little fixes, had the back corner of the house underpinned and insulated and boarded out the garage (not that that counts as a honey-do. ).
No, I have finally gotten close to finishing the freestanding 25’ X 10’ deck that ‘we’ agreed upon when we moved in. Phew!

Over the week, finished paint and quarter round in the guest bedroom and cutting materials for the Murphy/wall bed for it. Today first try at veneer banding... did the birch, still needed to do the cherry. Still just a couple big piles of wood at this point...would've rather faced it with solids like custom cabinets or furniture, but never done one of these and it has some mechanicals, so I just straight followed the kit instructions.PXL_20220731_220250172.jpg PXL_20220731_220247345.jpg 16593061511263867108140525760447.jpg

Replaced the ceiling fan in one of the bedrooms. Motor was toast but lights still worked so I just moved it into the spare room and swapped the fully functional fan in its place. Glad I don’t install fans for a living, my shoulders were burning.

    That's an interesting floor.

Murphy beds are great! We have one in our "lounge" to use for overflow guests when the primary guest room is already being used. You're going to love having it.

Thanks! I had bamboo flooring for a project that didn't materialize, but it wasn't enough for the room needed more. Found a little darker correct depth/tongue and groove on clearance, so decided I'd make a pattern. Turned out nice, but won't do THAT again!

That room looks GREAT! Looking forward to having a room that is useful for other things 50 weeks of the year, and a decent bedroom the other two.
