Took the fam out to dinner tonight. Cut the truck on and got the Maintenace Required soon message (I'm at 19,640 so time for the 20k maintenance). After that the check engine light stayed on and the display said the Traction control was off. I have the Hypertech Interceptor installed so I figured maybe that was screwing witht the electronics since the Maintenance light went off. After dinner I pulled the Interceptor out and I'm still getting the CEL and no traction control message. Anyone ever had this happen when the maintenance message pops up?? First time I've ever seen the Maintenance message. Guess I always got it to the dealer before it came on.

Have you done a system reboot by disconnecting the battery for a minute and reattaching it?

Maybe take it for a free scan at your local AutoZone, etc. to help narrow it down.

If your light is still on, I would get it scanned before trying to do anything else.

Need to know what codes it's pulling. It may be something so simple such as a loose gas cap.

Thank you Moto Tundra. Plan on taking it up to the dealer tomorrow. Just hoping to gain a little insight here. I've found the info on here is usually more helpful than whatever nonsense the dealer is trying to sell. I will post up whatever they find so it may help anyone else on here who runs into a similar problem. But if anyone has had this happen, please share your experience. Thanks!

Missed this somehow earlier. I have not tried this. Will try in the morning but she's still going to the dealer. I actually had some other trouble about 2.5 weeks ago. Cranked it up and it rev'ed up then died. Did it like 4 times straight even giving it a little gas. About 20 min later it cranked up and ran just fine.

If you're taking it to the dealer, don't clear the CEL so it can be corrected if warrantied.

Good call. Thought about that right after I wrote my last reply. Better leave it as is so the dealer can see it and cover the fix. Just hope they can't tell that I've had the Interceptor on there. From what I read it's somewhat difficult for them to tell if one has been on there.

Probably a loose gas cap. Mine did the exact same thing up to revving and dying.

That was a year ago, now it's back on and it's the emissions pressure sensor. Nothing the truck can't run without. Getting it fixed sometime next month.

I have a 16. Mine just last week had the traction control light come on and started flooding badly. I had the Hypertech as well. Took it off, went to dealer and they couldn't figure it out. They finally disconnected the battery so it would reset and no issues since. Makes me think the Hypertech caused the issue and when I took it off, the issue remained. Once reset without the Hypertech it was fine. I'm going to hook the Hypertech up to the computer and see if it functions as it should. Not putting it back on the truck until I confirm. I did find some corrosion when I unscrewed the cable connection on the Hypertech cable from the Hypertech box. It was a small amount of corrosion, but there's probably 30-40 connection points at that connection.

So here's where it stands: took her to the dealer this morning. The service rep thought it might be a loose gas cap as well. They hooked it up to the computer and got a ton of info. As I mentioned earlier, on June 17th I had a problem where it cranked up correctly and then immediately died about 4 times in a row. After that, it ran fine until yesterday. Turns out the CEL and Trac Control I got yesterday is related to the issue that happened on the 17th. They said they could see all that activity from the trucks computer and it matched exactly what I described to them. They said there is a Technical Service Bulletin for this issue and they recommend letting the truck sit for 8 hours untouched, then cranking it to see if it throws the codes again. So my truck sat up there all day. They cranked it this afternoon and it threw the codes again. Now they have to go through a diagnostic hierarchy to try to pinpoint the issue and fix. They will have the master technician out there tomorrow and hope to resolve it, but it may not be until Monday before it's fully resolved. Needless to say, I'm slightly worried about the complexity of this issue. Not sure if the Hypertech has anything to do with this issue (as there is a TSB for this) but I'm pretty sure I will leave it off the truck for the time being. Felt like a big difference in the beginning but after I took it off yesterday the truck didn't feel any different. Stay tuned and I'll provide updates as I get them.

Update: they cranked it up yesterday and it threw a code. It sat overnight and today when they crank it it's not throwing any codes. The rep said that the code it threw was PO11B. Descriptions says it's a coolant temp to intake temp correlation. They are saying that it's most likely a glitch. They cleared the codes and she is ready to pick up. Guess I'll just have to keep an eye on it and see if it happens again. Not sure it this could be the culprit but when I had the cranking issue and when it threw the CEL the truck had been baking in 90+ temps for quite some time. Usually my truck is either in my garage at home, or a parking garage at work. It rarely sits outside in direct sun. Wondering if that somehow caused the temp correlation errors:notsure::notsure::notsure:

This just happened to me on my way to work. My Maintenance required message has been displaying a few days now, I just haven't had the time to go yet. But my truck has been habing problems starting in cold whether temps after sitting for awhile. It cranks until it finally starts or sometimes it'll stop trying to turnover and die, then I'll crank it up again and it starts fine. But tonight, on my way to work, the CEL came on and I got the message that Traction Control is off. Going to get it to the dealer tomorrow or Monday. Still have a free oil change there any ways.

Dude. I ran the interceptor for 2 years. Got same thing one day. Disconnected battery. Reconnected. All good. Then I sold the interceptor.

I' say remove the hypertech completely. Dump the ach by battery disconnect for hour or so. Reconnect battery. Go from there.

I haven’t put the Interceptor back on my truck since and it’s been ok. Starting it is sometimes weird. It will crank and rev correctly then the rpms dip really low and then level off. Or sometime it cranks at really low rpm and after a second or 2 revs up correctly. I mentioned this to the tech at my 25k service. They said I should start using 89 octane because it’s a flex fuel. Said the cold weather affects the starts of the flex fuel if the alcohol levels aren’t correct. They check my alcohol level and it was slightly off. So I switched to 89 and it’s been a tiny bit better on starts. Probably not enough of a change to keep me on the 89 octane full time. That shit is expensive!!!

Any new update? This happened to me while I was towing a trailer on a 4 hour trip. I haven’t reset my ECU yet, but was going to see if anyone found anymore out.

Nothing new from my end. I gave the 89 an honest shot with about 5 or 6 fillups on it. Never made a difference imo. Switched backto 87 and everything seems the same to me. Starting is a little better, but to the dealers credit, it is starting to warm up here. Coming up on 30k and will have them recheck all codes etc to see if anything is up.

My apologies for missing this until now. This is good stuff and I’ll definitely ask them about this at the 30k service.

What’s strange is that this is the second issue I have had with this tundra. My 2003 had 278,000 miles on it when I sold it and I had not done much to it. (New radiator and wear and tear items). The gauge cluster and the fuel sensor has already been replaced (kept displaying low fuel when tank was full) and now this seems to be the next thing I’m facing. Luckily I bought the extended warranty but I think I’m getting a new one after this is fixed. I don’t feel like I will get 278,000 miles with this tundra.

Started it up today and no code and traction control works fine. Very strange. I guess I’ll continue to monitor it. Anyone know if the dealership can see past codes that came up? Or only active codes?

I think they can see past stuff. When my truck didn’t start a few times over the past summer it didn’t throw any codes but when I took it to the dealer they said they saw all that behavior on the computer readout and even told me what day it happened.

I think everybody should have a simple code reader as part of their toolkit these days.

$20-$40 on Amazon gets you a pretty decent reader which will also clear codes without having to disconnect the battery (I think pulling the EFI fuse will clear them also).

I had happen after I pulled the ignition fuse with key on. I was trying to diagnose an issue with my driver side LED DRL. 30 miles and shut down with restart after work it cleared itself.
