I keep reading they wear uneven and really fast? Is this true? It’s the Baja champion

Many tires list a mileage warranty, expected miles they will last. Wear however depends on how well maintained they are- rotated every 5k miles, air pressure kept correct. Not to mention is the truck aligned, are suspension or steering components worn, if so that can make the tires wear incorrectly.

You can buy expensive 70-80k mile tires and they won't last 20k miles if the truck has issues, front end not aligned, or tire pressure off, tires never rotated.

BFG ATs used to not have a mileage warranty, not sure if they do now. Properly maintained, they should last 40K miles plus.

That said, there are better performing tires out there for the price.

I’ve put 50k on mine and the wear has been okay. A little cupping on the front tires if you don’t rotate every 5k. I’ve been happy with them - no issues balancing, etc.

Replacing them next week and probably going with another set of KO2’s unless I decide to go up one size.

Check out the Cooper AT3 XLT's. Been very pleased with them. Just rolled 25k miles on them and no issues, plenty of tread left.

My KO2s are showing early signs of rounding off on the front shoulders. I'm going to be scheduling an alignment.

I'm actually switching to Michelin AT2s tomorrow.

My reason for doing so is ride quality. Mine are just not smooth on the freeway. Constant feedback from the road and mild vibration in the steering wheel that varies with road surface. Load range D.

I've been a BFG fan boy since I was 15, but i might be hanging that up for good now.

    I'd give Cooper at3s look.

I had KO2s that lasted about 38K miles.
My biggest issue was they got louder as they wore down..

I’ve got 32k miles on mine. Rotate every 5K. And this is the only issue I’ve had is getting louder.

Had 70k on the factory KO2s before I replaced them with Cooper AT3 XLTs. I had no issues but rotated every oil change (5k), kept them inflated to factory spec, and made sure the alignment was good.

Factory KO2s? I didn't know Toyota ever put KO2s on anything from the factory. Dealer add on?

Ford has done it on some off road packages...that's all that comes to mind..

My last set wore poorly. Replaced at 16k miles due to unbalancing and uneven wear. New set rides great and just completed a 4500 mile road trip without issue. Time for a rotation, but hopefully this set lasts and rides well. I really want them to work out.
They do have a mileage warranty as of late. My previous set did not allegedly. Same size and load. :notsure:

I ran BFG KO and KO2 exclusively for over 10 years on a handful of trucks and SUV's.

I bought my first set of non-BFG tires last year and I can honestly say I am not going back. I've been on 1 set of Toyo Open Country AT2's for almost 2 years (40K miles) and they have been so much better. They still have plenty of tread left, wear evenly and still very quiet and smooth.

Wear is a non issue with BFG’s. You will want to replace them halfwAy through their life when they are loud and ride like ass

KO2s now have a 50k warranty - at least in some sizes. You are going to hear everything from they are the worst ever to the best ever. I’ve had good luck with them. Get what you like, meets your needs/use, fits your budget and take care of them. Doesn’t matter what you run if you run the wrong pressure, don’t rotate or out of alignment.

I'm partial to my KO2s, I have mine from Costco so I get the free lifetime rotation, nitrogen fills (tire fills) and balancing. I like them enough when they're on sale but I think I'll want to run KM3s or Wildpeaks next time just to see if it'll be any better or worse.

Edit: and as said before. As long as you keep up to date with your vehicle suspension, alignments and all the fun tire stuff. It should wear out as intended. I'm no scientist but mine has given me decent confidence in snow and rain.

I have run KO2s on both of my 4X4 trucks. I have tried alot of AT tires and in my opinion KO2s are the best and to me they seem to give better traction on the red clay of middle Georgia. There is alot of good AT tires out there now and everybody show try tires and run what they like. There weren't alot of choices in the old days. LOL.

This is a fair statement, the ride quality has definitely decreased as they’ve gotten louder. It’s a gradual change, but I can’t think of a tire (on trucks at least) that didn’t do that to some degree. Always feels like a new truck when the new set of tires are installed!

Bfgs are too expensive to replace at 1/2 life.

This idea makes me want to go with a mid grade AT if it's going to need replacement anyway.

I was more acknowledging that they got louder and ride quality decreased. I obviously didn’t replace mine at 25k. For me, the way they’ve held up to mesquite thorns on the ranch is a strong reason for why I’m leaning towards putting another set on my truck. I haven’t had a tire hold up as well as these have in the last 10+ years. The only two flats I’ve had were from a massive bolt I picked up in a construction site and a broadhead someone left laying in the road at an archery tournament.

I’m sure there are other tires just as capable, but I’d rather go with what I’ve had success with.

Of course, a new set may not balance, etc. at which point I could go a different route all together. We’ll see next week ….

I used to be a big BFG KO homer, but my last two sets of KO2s were not as good as the original KOs. They just got louder as they wore and never balanced quite right. I made the switch to the Cooper AT3 XLTs on my last two sets and really like them. They are so quiet and smooth, and are very grippy off pavement. I will likely never go back to BFG.

My dad had E rated KO2's on the truck that I currently drive. Got 60K miles out of them and they still had plenty of life left. We both loved the tire, great performer on and off the pavement. I actually just grabbed one of the old wheels/tires and threw it under the bed for my spare. As mentioned above, make sure your alignment is proper and you're rotating every 5,000-7,500 miles (I do 7,500 mile oil change and tire rotations). There isn't a tire out there that will survive a bad alignment and no tire rotations.

been buying KO2s for a while from costco when on sale. The "lifetime" costco balancing/rotation is worth it. Wish they would carry other tires brands as well.

My 2014 came stock with 285/55/20 KOs, part of the TSS pacakge.
I think it was Gulf States add-on..

SO I had those and ran them 40K miles.
I bought KO2s in 275/60/20 and ran them around 35K miles.

Now running Discount Tire's Goodyear Ultra Terrian AT in 275/60/20.
I've been very happy with these Goodyears, before I wasn't really a Goodyear fan.
I actually went in to buy Cooper AT3 XLTs, but the sales guy asked if I wanted to give these a try, since there were $200 cheaper.
    I'm glad I did.

Goodyear Wrangler UltraTerrain AT | Discount Tire

WOW, on a side note, I paid $220 each for these tires 7/21/21.
    There are now $293 each...:eek2::oops:

I'm at almost 30K miles on my KO2's. I have them rotated & balanced every 5K or so and I can hear a bit more road noise after a rotation, however I have experienced this with most tire brands. I have at least 8/32 left on each tire and they are wearing very evenly. I have been running them at 50 psi and that seems to be the sweet spot.

Just put on some Kanati Trail Hogs, interested too see how they last. I’d say they were maybe 60-70% of the cost of the Toyo ATs I previously had (open range or open country, whichever is the newest version). The tread looks closer to MT than AT in my opinion, but from the very few reviews I had seen, they were supposed to be pretty damn good tires for the cost. We’ll see.

First thing I noticed is the road noise. Not as much as I had read from a cpl reviewers, but noticeable. I can’t remember how loud the Toyos were but I remember them making noise for a cpl weeks, and not again after. Hoping this is the same as I’ve only got under a thousand miles on them so far.

Made by Greenball Tires out of Kentucky, I believe. 10-ply, and the first shop claimed their compressor couldn’t fully inflate them. I called around and some shops laughed at the idea, but the Les Schwab nearby didn’t, said they’ve seen it before, and that they use a “cheetah” which I guess is a heavy duty compressor for industrial equipment tires. When I returned and expected to pay the hourly rate charge rather than a per tire flat fee due to the complications, LS told me it was an easy swap, so the first shop maybe just had trouble that was out of the ordinary.

If I can remember, I’ll post about how they last after each rotation, which I tend to do every 5k or so.
