Progress was made on the deck. Ledger board installed today. Added a kick out to avoid cutting the siding corner and give me an extra foot on the deck.

Posts and joists go up tomorrow.

That's the plan. Even though we average less than 20 inches of rain per year, I want to make sure I never have issues. I'm overbuilding the crap out of this deck.

Finally got the rotting deck out of the yard. We had a 15 yard roll-off dumpster delivered yesterday afternoon. Loaded it up and they picked it up this morning. Glad that bastard is gone.

Turned into a complete remodel of the backyard. That pad in the far left corner is where the $10k all started…… lol77157347-0269-4D45-8558-7C4CABCCAE19.jpg

prevent strain on your walls when the ground around the house foundations expands and contracts. The walls are attached to the ceiling with a 2″ gap between the bottom of the wall and the floor. This gap gets larger as the floor contracts and smaller as it expands.

Incredible! There's that much movement even with concrete floor?! I wonder what kind of underlayment tile would need if walls are hung 2" high to prevent stress! Incredible!

I never had to use anything different than what would be normal elsewhere, client preference. Just separating the concrete floor from the rest of the house. The floor by itself is strong, just goes up and down a good bit more than the rest of the house. Exterior concrete is crazy though, one of my friends lives in a high end community and the houses purchased new included a maintenance contract to replace exterior concrete frequently. Been awhile but if I remember correctly like 5-7 years.

But a house, being big as it is, would move up and down like a mattress. I doubt it's uniform? Small bathroom floor probably wouldn't matter, but a living room tiled might get tricky. Shcluter ditra works as an uncoupling membrane, but it isn't meant for up and down movement, only lateral.

Not so much house moving up and down, more the concrete floor that is reinforced to move as a solid unit. There is a slight trade off though which is classified as cosmetic that is just part of Colorado life, structural is a problem though of course. Where I live(Phoenix AZ) most homes are on structural slabs due to expansive soils, slab and house move together. I did get tile that cracks on the perimeter before the first set of tension cables, after 2 years I replaced them and used a fracture prevention liquid membrane that seems to work well.
