    Can it be done? Sure
    It is likely? No.

Thieves want to make 4 cuts, drop the cats, and haul ass.
They aren't interested in removing bolts and cutting anything else.
They want out in the least amount of time with the least amount of noise.

In a parking lot, they are going hit the most vulnerable vehicle.
Are the shields a guarantee? No.
Are they a great deterent? Yes.

How exactly is your cordless drill going to remove bolts with security heads that most of us put Loctite on?
Are they going to heat the bolts up to loosen the Loctite?
Even if they did cut the rear brackets, the front of the rear plate is bolted to the frame.
So good luck cutting these bolts off.

If you had your cats stolen, and you went 8 months without your truck waiting on parts to literally be made, you might understand why we are installing these shields.

I'm well aware of the problem. Was just posing a question which you answered before the lecture. Most of the photos I've seen have highlighted each manufacturer's logo, not the installation/security side of things. I haven't installed them myself, so I was previously unaware of the security heads/loctite. Makes sense. I get you're frustrated, but you can probably stow the finger wagging from now on.

My 'lecture' seemed to answer your question.
    You're welcome.

As far as stow the finger-wagging from now on (whatever the fuck that means), I have no idea what you are referring to.
Please expand on this prudent thought, I really want to understand your message of importance...

    Security 'bolts'?
Tyler at Valhalla sells pentagon bolts and the socket that fit them.
    All Products (valhallasshields.com)
I'm sure you could find them elsewhere.

Some guys are using Screwd security fasteners.
    Screwd® Security Fasteners (screwdsecurity.com)
    Machine Screws - Metric – Screwd (screwdsecurity.com)

As far as bolt head protectors, most of us are using Rock Hard 4X4 dome protectors.
I used medium domes with Pentagon bolts.
A little expensive but they are well made and powder coated.

Rock Hard 4x4™ "Rock Dome" Tapered Bolt Head Protector for Skid Plate Systems - Large [RH-6000-SW-496]
Rock Hard 4x4™ "Rock Dome" Tapered Bolt Head Protector for Skid Plate Systems - Medium [RH-6000-SW-400]
Rock Hard 4x4™" Rock Dome" Tapered Bolt Head Protecter for Oil Pan Skid Plate Drain Access - Small [RH-6000-SW-388]

Some are also used Barnes 4WD, but they are usually out of stock.
    3/8" to 7/16" Bolt Head Protector – Barnes 4WD
    5/8" to 3/4" Bolt Head Protector – Barnes 4WD

Hum, another helpful lecture, I'm on a roll..

Me: "I'm confused, is the additional work of removing the shields the deterrent?"
Someone without a hard-on for cordless drills heating up loctite: "Yes"

See how normal people do Q&A? Easy, right?

I doubt you actually want to know, but it means avoid lecturing strangers on the internet when a simple "yes/no" can suffice. Pretend they're standing next to you. Be less of a douche. Whatever else you want it to mean. I don't know?

Sorry your cats were stolen. Sorry it took so long for a remedy. Be happier now. :notsure:

First of all, I don't need your pity about my cats being stolen, it really has nothing to do with you.
I am happy, I'm actually one of the nicest mother fuckers you ever could possibly meet.

I'm so sorry you were triggered by my lecture.
What am I missing? isn't a yes or no question.
My lecture answered exactly what you were missing and what you seemed to be so dumbfounded about concerning cat shields.
Security bolts and Loctite is part of what you were MISSING.

If you read any of my posts on this forum I go into detail to provide information, not to lecture people.
For example, the post above yours, which wasn't a lecture, that was me giving @blaserdude info on his question and covering all the bases in case someone else came along and found his post in a search.

Feel free to ignore my future posts, I'd hate for you to feel you needed time out in a safe space because I explained something to someone to the best of my knowledge.
    God bless..

I'm entertained by the thread :D. The more important part, thanks for the links to the Rock Hard domes. Does the Screwd security bolts use the small ones? The more deterrent the better. I need to get security bolts for the CBI skids on the 4Runner now that I'm thinking about it.

I never really did figure out which scewed bolts to use on Valhalla shields.
Tyler's pentagon bolts were pretty thick.

TRD Skid plate bolt, his nut plate was perfect.

As far as I can tell the biggest Screwd bolt is 3/8s.

Thanks. I think mine are 3/8. I kept the package so I'll take a look at it. The medium has a 1/2 hole so I'll take a look at the size for the small one. Either one will most likely work.

They were even buying stolen ones and reselling them!!! The news reported this was stemmed from when an officer lost his life coming out finding them steeling them off his truck!!! Also reported this group was responsible for at least a mill in stolen goods!!! It was a big bust!!!!!

    From a article…

“American brands such as Ford, Chevy, Jeep, Dodge, and Chrysler tend to have less valuable catalytic converters and are therefore less likely to get stolen. Some Nissan, Hyundai, Mazda, and Subaru models also fall into this category. Many brands used cat designs that limited how many precious metals were inside”

To answer a few questions from this thread no I did not have any kind of antitheft plate on my tundra. As for the police officer in Baytown I don’t remember the year he mentioned for Chevrolet pickups but it is year specific. I’ll try to find out what year it is. He did say certain Chevrolet pickups are stolen by cutting through the left front wheel well putting in their own computer and starting them up and stealing. Earlier this week a Toyota parts manager confirmed much long wait for parts and told me he just received a customers Converters and it was the 200th day.

The officer said the Chevrolet pick up cats were not stolen are year specific. I’ll try to get the year model of the one they passed by. It is less than six years old. Certain years of Chevrolet pickups are being stolen by cutting through the left front wheel well and them using their own computer to start and steal the vehicles.

Wow, that would surely suck if thieves were to destroy the front end of the body to get the cats out. I would be so ultra mega pissed!!!!

On the second part, I guess key start has their advantages.

Sorry to hear that. Mine got stolen last year. With as many cats getting stolen nowadays, maybe we should start our own club - the Stolen Tundra Cat Club or something. At the very least, we should have our own subfolder in this forum as the numbers continue to grow.

But yeah, the sheer lack of parts is like adding insult to injury, or rubbing salt to the wound. Yes, we can always go aftermarket. If anything, most of us are forced to if we don’t want to wait 9 months for OEM cats. But some, like me, who went aftermarket may have to pay again for the OEMs (when they finally arrive) since some aftermarkets end up throwing a code after a while (mine throws the P0430 code more often than not now).

Anyway, be sure you have a good mechanic thoroughly check everything, like fuel lines, brake lines, etc. I checked underneath and didn’t see any other damage aside from the cut O2 sensor wires. But near the front cats, the thieves had made surface cuts along the fuel line and also cut the EVAP purge valve line, which also threw a different code. The fuel line cuts, while not bad enough to cause a leak, would’ve eventually caused them to fail and leak, possibly resulting in a fire. My insurance paid for all that, minus the deductible.

Mine were stolen a while back. Insurance only covered 30 days rental. Bought a 4Runner to drive in the mean time. First thing I did was install shields on the 4runner. Tundra shields are in garage waiting for truck to be fixed.
