Toyota plans on releasing an update that may fix those issues. I wouldn't buy a pedal commander, I would just put it in sport mode and tow/haul mode.

Thought I'd drop a new observation I've made with more time and varied use... Just took our Four Wheel Camper off the truck after being on for a few weeks and just realized I never once experienced the throttle delay with the camper on. Now that it is off I've been experiencing it pretty often again under the same conditions as before. Makes me think it is a programming/tuning issue at that comes up at very low load only. Throttle with a load on has been consistent and predictable.

We've had similar observations over the summer when our truck was loaded down for trips, etc. The touchiness of the throttle and the surge/lag was at least less pronounced.

I just scheduled my 5,000 mile service about 30 minutes ago. When I described the lag/surge issue - he sounded as if he’s never heard of it. I know several people have said that a fix from Toyota was coming, but his reaction to my description of the issue doesn’t leave me very optimistic.

Not surprising at all. It seems very few service writers have a clue in general in my experience. A lot of them only seem to care about upselling overpriced "services" to customers who don't know any better.

I swear these guys act like that to make the issue seem minor/rare. He could have heard it from the last ten customers and would tell you the same thing. I think I trust the service guys less than the sales people.

The typical thing for me when I pull out is to step on the gas, nothing, step harder and then lurch into a nice burnout. Works out, I guess, but I end up looking like a D-bag. Sport mode is definitely better but it's also weird how it just randomly happens. That might be the most un-nerving part. Also, when I keep it floored, the transmission will often miss and get janky.

I just finally utilized Sport mode yesterday for the first time, and the difference in throttle response from Normal is night and day... In Sport there is *almost* no lag... I really wish they didn't have the Drive Mode set up like the Auto Start crap and reset to Normal every power cycle...

I have the same concern... I just recieved notice of a service bulletin.
ECU getting flashed tomorrow. Not sure if it will correct the issue or not but will keep you posted.

    Service campaign L67
Due to certain programming in the engine ecu, under certain conditions the vehicle may stall at low speeds when accelerating from a stop.

Any chance you can post a screen shot of the Service Campaign notification for us? Hadn't heard about this one yet and it's not showing in my app.

    Here you go.
    It's a Canadian vehicle however.
Hopefully it helps with the issue but could be unrelated. Will keep you guys updated after the flash

Thanks. Sure sounds close to what we are experiencing. I haven't had it stall but it sure feels close!

Just this morning in normal mode. Went to pull out, started, truck felt like it stalled and then jumped forward. My Service Manager of course knows nothing. Two issues coming there way. Clanking when going from Park to reverse and the throttle response concerns.

Just picked the truck up yesterday and immediately felt this on the way home. Taking a left through a break in traffic starting at a rolling speed it took a full second to get any power and then it jumps..

Same with my truck, in Sport mode the throttle response is short of being supercar responsive, with no perceptible throttle or turbo lag.

I guess I’m one of the lucky ones to get no such issues, or any other issue for that matter!

    Had the ECU update yesterday.
Almost a different truck on way home and later in day. The hesitation and jerkiness if punching it has pretty much disappeared.

The recalls were completed on mine before I picked it up. Still feeling that lag/surge. I'll just have to mention it next stop at the dealer and maybe they can reboot it for me.

I had that feeling. Based on the description of the issue it was supposed to resolve, normal driving didn't seem to be in there. I don't ever rapidly accelerate and then brake, I just need to be able to pull away from a stop sign without the truck losing power. I think that recall was Toyota's CYI....we addressed the problem.

I think the service campaign you refer to here is different than the one posted up above. 22TC08 is what you are referring to it sounds like. L67 has a different issue described that sounds closer to the topic of this thread. I could be wrong but that is how I read the two campaign notices. I do not have the L67 campaign notice showing so I'm just going off the screen shot above.

Oh, gotcha. It still doesn't seem to address the issue I and many others are expressing. My truck hasn't ever stalled and required re-starting, it just seems to bog down and lose the ability to accelerate. Give it a couple seconds and it functions fine; this is a very long 1-2 seconds when I'm across oncoming traffic lanes.

I still think it's a CYA attempt, how can a manufacturer possibly know of such a safety issue and not address it. They will claim this was an attempt.

I took my truck in for 5k mile service today - the techs told me it’s turbo lag. I told them I’m 100% certain it’s not, but obviously they’re not going to listen to me. I’m a little frustrated they won’t at least entertain the idea that it’s a problem. Also, my brakes have been squeaking since day one, and they say they can’t find anything wrong there either.

Oddly enough, my local service manager says, "it's a known issue by Toyota and they are working to correct it via software update".

What dealership is that, you don’t mind my asking? I’d like to be able to tell Kerry Toyota that another service center says otherwise.
