What have people used to make a flat surface on tailgate to use as a table and not kill your knees when crawling into truck?

I'd get the step. It's been one of my favorite mods so far. I use it all of the time.

Get a bumper with steps. Or you can buy a bed step.

Half the time I just climb up on the tire though :notsure:

Hell, I have to crawl to get into mine.
Sit on the tailgate, and crawl up on my bad knees before I can stand up in the bed.
    Being old sucks..

    ^ This.
Doesn't make it flat, but it sure makes things easier on the knees.
Although it gets hot pretty quickly in the sun.
It also keeps things in place while driving.

I have a Bedrug bed mat and a separate tailgate mat.
    They attach with Velcro.
You can buy the mat separately if that is all you want.

    All BedRug Products | Bedrug

    E56C2A52-CB37-4473-BA4A-B034B228A760_zps_502eb92db0716579cf47540ed62f91eb57e1d310.jpg 546A275F-72CF-4EAD-8C56-93DF9EA35A68_zps_82b7cdf9ecba46ac01a5f746fd0dd1851473821e.jpg

They make a new 'IMPACT' full floor mat that has a flatter surface than carpet, but it still has padding.

I have a step on my workbench I got for Christmas.
Just have been waiting to get the truck back and got it last week.
Hope to get the step on this week or next week.

BedStep is the answer. I have one on my Tacoma, and it was the first mod I did to the Tundra.

Brother, I've been trying to get her to buy a Toyota or Lexus for 15 years.
She wants no part of it, but she will buy Volvos and Cadillacs..:eek2:

She won't drive my truck, she says it's too big.

I've only got 5 years left on a 20-year term life insurance policy.
If I don't expire by then, she is going to have to start paying for one if she wants it.

Why should I pay for it?
She is the one getting the benefit..

I have a canopy and a bed liner so crawling back there is hard on my knees, especially in shorts. For camping season, I just threw a little piece of carpet I keep in the garage for working on the vehicles in the bed.

Anither vote for BedRug. I have BedRugs in both my Tundras. Much kinder to my knees than the kids’ Tundra.
