Full coverage insurance on first gens?

Do you guys carry full coverage insurance on your first gens?

Yaas,always. Even have the lowest deductible of $300 on collision and comprehensive.

 

That lower deductible is nice. Last year I was in the newly restored 4R and it was rear-ended and hit twice. No insurance on the other end. Fucking pissed me off to pay 2K within a few months of another on deductibles. I've since switched to low deductibles all around. I'm insuring 4 trucks at the moment.

I do, and I've been considering over-insuring after seeing the BAT auctions fetching low-mileage loaded trucks like mine in the $30k+ range

 

PS - As a stop-gap to CMOA, I also went out and got a Garmin Mini dashcam, just in case someone tries to play foul on me as others have had done to them.

It sits neatly behind my rear view mirror, hidden. Other driver would have no way of seeing it or knowing I had one. I'd be tempted to ask the responding officer to take their report first before disclosing I had one and could show the footage. It has no built-in screen, but the app is easy enough to use on the spot. Wiring was easy.

Garmin makes consistently good product. I got stuck in analysis paralysis trying to figure out which to get. I think I paid $99 for the cam + $15 for the pop-on UV filter lens.

 

Post up some screen shots of the app please or some videos from it. I was pleased with my nexar camera, but was bummed I couldn't add a rear camera to it without buying a completely different camera set up from them

I have forward-only. I think it's possible to add a rear with Garmin, I don't recall though.

That said, this Garmin and the Violfo models are what everyone seemed to get around the time I got mine. Garmin has since released the v2 mini, which has some solid tweaks and improvement. Since I'm out on the farm until tomorrow, I'll link you up with some reviews.

This 1st guy does a great review, I found it afterwards - none of the flaws he mentions still exist, they've been fixed with firmware updates. Shows the app usage. Any overheat issues you find people discussing are non-existent now.

This guy did a great, comprehensive review, showing extreme temp usage, the UV filter, day and night, etc. Talks about the app at 15min. Note the special "auto dim mirror tee" adapter harness he shows also, while neither you or I have autodim mirror right now, it's a cool option that makes wiring 100x easier! (I just routed USB along the passenger headliner, down passenger A-pillar, behind glovebox, to center console cig lighter port).

I know there's a bajillion brands out there. You could melt your brain reading reviews on scAmazon. I trust Garmin. They stand by their product, but they build things so damn well you'll likely never need to cash in on that. I wasn't seeing the same w/Violfo and others, which sealed my decision.

Garmin has several options out there if you need it. I just wanted something small, discrete in a way that it won't trigger a window smash-n-grab theft or alert a lying asshole that causes a wreck, and be easy to deal with w/good support. The mini does it for me. I'll probably go with another Garmin model for the wife's Highlander soon.

Absolutely. My wife worked for Travelers insurance for a while so we saw all the horror stories. We have comprehensive coverage and dash cameras. I also pay extra for all the work I've done to my truck.

 

I did on my 04, it was cheap.

 

I told them I have aftermarket parts that cost a lot, they gave me insurance for those.

 

I'm not completely sure and I think it got me about $5k in additional coverage. Maybe more - but I should do an insurance review with them.

 

But not a lot, I pay 2K/ 6 months. 2005,2005,2006 are all about the same. Mines an 05. The 2014 is double the rest.

 

What weird for me is the price of insuring a new Tacoma is only $100-$200/yr more due to all the safety and security features.

 

I’ve got full coverage on the truck. The reason I got it cheap with a clean title is because the dude I bought it from had liability. He had full coverage, had dropped 7k on it before rolling it, and he ended up only getting $300 back (technically $0 after the storage fees from the place that took it).


All my cars are full coverage. It’s also cheap when you own enough for fleet coverage rates

 

And it's light I would think. Heavier trucks cause more damage to others.

 

I wouldn’t be surprised if the new Tundra is comparable.
