Out here in West Texas it's been cold as ever. Temperatures have been down to single digits. My Tundra ain't liking it since the flex fuel cold start problems came back

Interesting...we were in the negatives for the lost part of last week ... No issues...but then again, I don't run the flex fuel edition.

Its a been an on going problem for the 5.7 Flex Fuel with its fuel density readings. The engine thinks its running E85 ethanol gas when its running normal 87 octane causing it to basically flood itself causing it to stumble over itself when starting in the cold. The common fix was to reflash the computer which was a temporary fix in most cases. My did it a year ago and had it reprogrammed and it was fine up until the end of december when the cold start problem came back but this time worse. When it gets really cold like down to the single digits my truck usually won't crank on the first start and when it starts on the second try it smokes ALOT and rough idles as if it has thumper cams in it for a few seconds then it smooths out. Toyota said its not hurting the engine but Im still not convinced. The dealership i bought the truck from in Dallas said that it was my intake that was causing the problem because apparently having the Volant CAI and flow master true dual exhaust is allowing too much free air flow for the engine. Well the dealership up in Lubbock said that the intake is fine and that i need to replace my PCV valve.

    Welcome!

What options are you looking at in the truck? Standard/double/Crewcab?
Basic plain truck? Or upgrades to Nav? Heated seats? Sunroof? Power mirrors? Etc etc.

Crew cab, navigation, power windows, seats, mirrors, cloth seats. I hope that helps. The dealership in Lubbock, TX quoted me $38000 with leather seats and all options I said. Is that a good offer?

    Well, I paid $38k for a 2012 DC SR5 4x4 TRD

Are you planning on wheeling it, or keeping it more of a street queen? I would shop around, but when I was looking all of the dealers wanted mid 40's for what you're describing ....just depends on your needs.

Look to get 10% off of the sticker price. That's what I strive for and got with my tacoma. Parents got that with their tundra. I got just below blue book on my tundra private sale.

Did the pcv valve work? Seems like it shouldn't be the problem.

I was born in Corpus Christi a billion years ago. Does that count? heh heh. I know there has to be a lot Texas Tundra owners considering that Tundras are born there.

When the 2nd generation came out, I was one of the first to order one from the local dealer Red McCombs Toyota in San Antonio. I was the first to have a new 2nd Generation Tundra in my neighborhood. Now there's lots of Tundra owners around the hood. Cool beans.
