Anyone stuffed a 37" tire on a 20" wheel under their bed in the stock spare location?

Might / might not be doable. Just a quick eyeball under my truck today and it looks way too tight. I know that the rear leaf springs and shackles are way too close together. Just from a quick look (and the only way that IT MIGHT FIT under there) is to relocate the spare tire crank/mount forward.

Any info would be much appreciated.

No way. It'll hit the shackles. 35's barely fit.

Thats what I figured and looks like the rear structure too back behind the bumper. There is a bunch of room forward. I might see what I can get by moving the tire crane forward.

Also looking at a possible bumper mounted swing out spare tire solution.

P&P engineering has a nice bumper with swing out. But you lose the rear camera.

Ive got a heck of a welding shop down the road and might see what we can fabricate up that will bolt to my existing ICI Magnum bumper. Might look at lengthening the wire harness and the relocating the camera out on the spare mount some place.

Yeah, shouldn't be too difficult if you already have an ICI.

That's a good idea.. just the back up camera is lost that way right? Can the tailgate still come down?

Or you can bed mount it but a 37 will take up a lot of bed space.

    yes
deflate it and throw a ratchet strap around it to pull it in a little. should fit fine. Used to do that under my 87 runner till i just ditched carrying the spare altogether

Body Armor makes crap in China. Warped, cheap, thin metal that dose not fit properly.

Custom making my swing tire carrier. Will post up some pics when its done.

    Ok, parts are in.

Here is the idea and mock up. Will be building custom brackets to BOLT on to my existing ICI Magnum bumper.

This is Smittybilt rear tire swing for Jeeps (less the jeep bumper). Holds up to a 42" tire, two Jerry Cans, high lift jack, and what ever else that you want to try and mount to it.

This will block my existing license plate so I will remove the square silver logo badge at the bottom and will relocate my plate to that bottom area of the tire carrier and run some led's to light it up.

I am not using the rear brake light bracket that comes with this as my topper shell will be in next week and the rear brake light should be visible above the top of my spare tire. However, I might see if I can shorten it a bit and see what it looks like with my CB antenna mounted to it.

Ive got some small led lamps that i will mount on the carrier as well that will be on a toggle in the cab.

Should have the brackets made this weekend. Will post up some more pics before I send them out to be powder coated flat black to match my bumper.

The tire carrier comes with the hinge pin and the striker pin included. Just add the bolt on brackets and Im done.

    Got my tire carrier done.

The bumper and rig carries the weight great.

Only real stress on anything is on the right rear bumper when the carrier is open all of the way or sticking straight back open. Thats a ton of weight hanging out there and I need to add an additional plate behind the hinge that runs the full length on that flat bumper surface. I will have to add an additional set of 4 bolts (inboard of the bumper attachment to the frame area). Will have to do the same on the latch side to get everything even spacing on both sides. Extra bolts and steel plate never hurt anything.

For driving I think that its fine but I am going to have to add the additional plates and bolts for when I am going to leave it open for any length of time.

I added the strap hinge to the latch side as a safety to cover the latch. The latch works very well and stays secure but I wanted the extra reassurance that the thing wWILL NOT swing open. I DO NOT WANT THAT THING COMING OPEN GOING DOWN THE ROAD. The tire carrier that I built like this for my Tacoma came open once and I am lucky that I didn't smack a car or a telephone pole with it!.

I just threw some primer and paint on it in case it rains. When I build the additional plates and take it apart I may send it out to be powder coated.

This is a cool set up, I'm lookin for a way to stuff my 37 somewhere but I use my rear camera way to much to not have it anymore, also when parking in garages at work. That extra sticking out will have me sticking out that much more into traffic..

Rci has the best looking one IMO

Think Toytec has another that looks great!
If I'm not mistaken, xtyfighterx has one on his truck and uses it as a carrier.

Cool, so you can use it for other things besides a spare? It's probably hooked up with straps then?
