My 2018 SR5 DC has about 78,000 kms on it, and the A/C quit blowing cold air.
Is there any chance it just needs recharge? (Where did my gas go?)
Or do I have a leak?
If so I have a nasty feeling this is going to cost a bundle.
The YF1234 gas is not cheap either!

Might need a recharge and or have a leak. I would get some and add it to see if that's helps. At least rule out something if it doesn't work.

If it needs a recharge, it has a leak.

    Function before sparkle.
Exactly. Refrigerant doesn't get used - it can only leak. Leaks are common in the recharge port valves.

Is the compressor turning on? If so, is it cycling on and off quickly?

if it is then probably you have a leak.

My 2011 had a leak and it ended up costing 3k to fix!! Had to take the whole dash out to change the evaporator core I believe!

hopefully yours has a leak elsewhere where it’s a much cheaper fix!! Goodluck

Sorry bud. Could be worse though! At least the dash doesn’t have to come out.

I thought 19 was the first year for TF1234. 18 should still be R134, also from what I understand you can even refill the YF1234 with R134.

if u need a recharge good chance you have a leak

    hopefully it’s not the evaporator

check the high and low side with gauges and see what they read

charge it up with some dye and check with uv light if u see any leak

What does that include ? Usually if there is an internal compressor failure, the system has to be flushed and also a new receiver drier accumulator, etc...

So far nothing else said except the compressor needs replacing, and new gas.
Def need the YF. It’s right on a sticker under the hood.
I did use my ac a lot during those 80,000 k’s. But still, it seems things like the compressor should last longer than 4 years.

The YF is an EPA thing, if the system is empty and then filled with R134 the AC isnt going to know the difference.

2018 got kinda screwed with the ac system. They used the new refrigerant, but none of the stuff to support it like the bigger condenser, so yeah… Mine makes some sketchy noises and doesn’t cool as well as my 2016, but still acceptable. 2019 and up got the bigger condenser but they had to lose the transmission cooler to do so.

I believe the compressor is different so not sure about that.
