Towing Mirror Shopping

I'm trying to make a decission between the tow mirrors from Boost Auto Parts and Amazon's MOSTPLUS (less than 1/2 the price $233 opposed to $475). Both mirrors have the same options I'm looking for but the MOSTPLUS mirrors has a buyer's complaint of wires being exposed on the outside of the mirror. I also have found Trail Ridge mirrors for a little over $300 with all the same amenities except the turn signal in the mirror and the reverse light which I don't need.

Is this all a matter of getting what you pay for or are all these mirrors really made by the same manufacture and your just paying for the name?

 

WOW! I was wondering why I did get any replies to this thread and then I did a search and I was amazed how many other post weren't answered. I guess I'm in the wrong place. Oh well....

 

You may have better luck if you post this in the towing forum. If you search, there are already some threads in there about some of these mirrors.

 

If you dig around as stated, multiple threads regarding the Boost mirrors compared to the Amazon ones. It is a "you get what you pay for" but I think it also depends what you are looking for. If you are just wanting some manual fold tow mirrors with just the basic features, I think you should be able to find a decent set on Amazon. Yes Boost will probably be better build, but if you do some digging on Amazon reviews you can probably find a set that is rated well and will do what you want for around half the price.
I went Boost because I liked all the options they had and how customizable they were. With the options I picked, I honestly couldn't find another after market mirror that did the same and I bought during a sale so it was almost the same as buying tow mirrors thru Toyota but instead I got a lot more mirror for the money.

You've been a member on here since 2019. You know that sometimes it takes a moment for a thread to get traction. Once it falls from the first page, most of us won't see it until it pops back up.

 

Oh, I meant to add. Most the mirrors you find on Amazon are probably the same manufacturer but sometimes the quality checks vary along with customer service (some exist and will help, others seem to have non-existent service) hence the comment about digging into their reviews. If you go Amazon, no matter which you buy its probably going to be the same. I have seen threads were folks had to re-pin their Amazon tow mirrors to get them wires lined up with the trucks harness to get the blinker and other functions to work. The Boost mirrors seem to have a better reputation and their customer service tends to be rated well. I don't think anyone has held a Boost mirror in 1 hand and an Amazon 1 in the other to directly compare their quality.

 

I had some problems - or at least what I perceived as a problem - with some aftermarket mirrors from Amazon. They were not the cheapest set and had good reviews. The passenger side mirror seemed to magnify things too much so as to give a huge blind spot. I had way better visibility with the factory sport mirrors. I trying adjusting them several different ways and maybe I’m just a dummy. I just ordered a set of factory tow mirrors to compare and contrast… I’ve driven lots of trucks with tow mirrors and don’t recall ever having the same problem with factory mirrors.

 

Interesting. Most of the tow mirrors don't magnify the passenger side so often people complain about that. Guess that company tried to overcompensate and got the magnification level wrong

I just ordered oem tow mirrors. Didn't realize that boost was a better alternative until after they had shipped from Sparks. Oh well.

 

Better is a strong word. If you like the design and options of the Toyota mirrors, they are great. Boost just allows more customization
