Hi All, i’ve been going through the various threads regarding catalytic converter‘s thefts which looks like everywhere. Mine were stolen last week while I was working. The bastards cut through a heavy galvanized chain-link fence with security cameras all around and cut all my catalytic converters out from my my 2020 Tundra SR5 Quicksand along with another’s Tundra parked two spaces away a 2008 Tundra both of his converters were cut out. Two spaces down from the second was a late model Chevrolet Silverado. Baytown police officer who responded commented they probably didn’t touch the Silverado. He was right. City of Baytown had 108 Tundra cat thefts in the month of June according to this officer. This was his fourth call for service regarding stolen catalytic converters since he began his shift.
What’s worse is I’m being told three months to possibly nine months for replacement parts. I have insurance but it won’t cover a rental car for that long. All I know to do now is go and find a quality after market. Any ideas anyone please? Thank you,
I’m sorry to hear so many other good folks out there going through the same mess especially those who don’t have insurance.

Sorry to be reading of your misfortune and hopefully you can recover sooner than later. Did the policeman comment as to why the Silverado wasn't touched other than the fact that the Tundra is so desirable by cat thieves?

WOW!! Sorry to hear that happened. So you did not have a plate on there???

One dealer still has over 20 on their lot waiting for cats. They have done a few but those are just replaced with new Tundras that have had cats stolen. It is a mess and until the LEO and the courts start hitting these people with some severe penalties it will not let up. Houston just passed a law and it involves the places that purchase these also!! Again hate to hear that.

I don't know if my circumstances played a part in it but I got Toyota to foot the bill of my rental. My circumstances as I pointed out to them was my truck was towed to the dealer to have some front end repair. They towed it to the auto body shop (they don't have a shop on premises). While at the autobody shop, someone broke into their lot and stole my cats along with another Tundra. The other Tundra had the tank drilled, but not mine. So I don't know if having them stolen while in their care tipped the scales to them footing the bill but I just said, "WTF cause your parts are on backordered for who knows how long and they got stolen in your possession...."
I am 3 weeks into this ordeal but I am hearing rumblings that they may be getting some cats in later this week.....

Need to figure out a way to word it in court that cat thieves are using lethal force while stealing cats so they can be shot. I mean, the gubment folks keep saying emissions are killing us.

My co-worker got Aftermarkets plus FlowMaster $1200 cause Toyota said it would be a 4-5 month wait. Probably a longer wait now, and the next day they got stolen again while grocery shopping at HEB. Get a convertor shield.

Ask @1lowlife how he got Toyota to cover his rental after his insurance ran out. His circumstance is very similar to yours.

I am sorry this happened to you! It sucks for sure!

Dang sorry to hear. I hate thieves. People are getting away too much nowadays, we need to impose harsher punishments on these lowlifes.

Why not use these out of service trucks as bait so we can catch some of those guys and get leads on those who buy the cats?

Mine were stolen in february. I had to cancel camping trips and basically no truck all summer. Im in Pearland and Keating Toyota was communicating with me constantly. They said it could be nine months minimum for OEM cats. So I trusted them with Magnaflow cats. They said they have had no code problems so far. I've been driving it for five weeks and no problems yet. It only took a couple of weeks once I committed to aftermarket. I did have them put a shield on while they had it. The rear cats are exposed so I ordered MillerCat rear shields and had to modify it to work. It worked good and the rear cats are now covered.

Will the truck run ok if you put straight pipes in? I think you have inspections in TX, but it would be a temporary fix.

Other than some low end torque loss, yes it drives fine with straight pipes. Been driving mine for a few months because some crackhead hacked my cats off.

I guess I'm missing something with these cat shields. Is it just the extra work/step that is the deterrent? The pic above (not sure if all mfgs are this way) look like those mounting brackets cant be sawed through pretty easily, in addition to a cordless drill making quick work of those bolts?

    What am I missing?

Edit: also, sorry to the OP and others who are experiencing this kind of headache.

Im sure the people who steal converters are very aware of these devices (probably monitor these forums) and are thinking ahead. That said, I have a Valhalla shield on my truck. Old saying: "A lock just keeps an honest man honest".

    If I may, dear Sir:hattip:...
Antique vehicles do it all the time. It's bad for the environment though. Inspection is another issue.

Biggest problem arises from getting all sorts of lights on the dash, but some folks seem to circumvent that issue by using some sort of o2 simulations.
