@Sunnier I know you, and possibly @des2mtn and likely many others, are my first gen peeps familiar with San G. In preparation to this, with of course limited time and budget, let’s talk about priorities. Like how necessary are sliders and skids for the trails? Maybe a wench? Or what else should I be thinking about? On board compressor?
I’m on 35’s with high clearance bumpers front and back. Did the BMC for clearing the 35’s. I am 2WD but will be installing LSD and gears beforehand. Will also be installing a few solid shackle mounts for recovery and already have the straps…. You know…. just in case. What else? Any advice or suggestions are welcome. I know a radio is on my list, but I don’t know anything about them at all, so any help there will also be appreciated. ThanxIA

Good call on picking up a radio, and there will be many there who can walk you through the basics. If not, I’d be happy to.

I suppose the first thing to do would be looking up some trails. I know years ago for San G I ran Clark’s Grade to Heartbreak ridge in my 2wd Tacoma and had a great time. I didn’t have skids, but did have sliders and don’t recall hitting the sliders. That was a fun one if you’re up for a little more challenge in a 2wd.
A lot of the trails you look up will be 4x4 trails.
I don’t think skids and sliders will be “required” but are always a nice thing to have to prevent damage.
Having some form of air to air up your tires at the end of the trail would be a smart investment.
    I’d say your basics:
    Some recovery gear
    Some tools
    Radio
    Air compressor
    Extra water

Keep in mind a tow strap does you no good unless there’s someone to attach to. And tools will only go so far if you don’t have the spare parts needed. So everything comes with an asterisk. But some basics will go a long way.
At the end of the day we’re all one big family and if something happens to where the group your with can’t help, send someone to camp to find someone who can help. There will always be someone that can help amongst this group.

Super helpful in general (me in this case). I have had great luck with baofeng radios. I had the 5R years ago and sold them for 82's. They are super cheap and effective in my opinion. I don't know much about radios, I don't even know how to program the ones I have in the field - I do it on a computer w/ cable. And that's a mind bend in itself. But get radio, maybe @eccracer104 has recommendations.

Which is another reason I pulled the rear light in the hitch for an anchor point. Now you can pull from front or rear - Player's Choice!

Lol. I just posted this the other day -
    https://www.tundras.com/threads/wel...-happening-thread.19581/page-361#post-2839759

UV5R is the “go to” starter radio. I had a hard mount in my last truck but haven’t upgraded my Tundra yet. I’m currently using the UV5R.

Everytime I've ever seen that video I think "that is NOT that dudes real voice". That was around the same time as Milli Vanilli, eh?
That song reminds me of the rollerskating rink.
Okay, I'm outta the loop and gotta ask, what is rick-rolled?
