Just reading through the receipt from my repair. They had told me that the insurance would only pay for aftermarket parts, but they don't do that so they just priced match the part cost and installed Toyota stuff. One thing that kinda shocked me is that I guess there was a broken tab on the headlight, so they replaced it. Thing is, my truck is a 2014 SR5 that came with the basic halogen light, but I had done the swap over to the 2018+ OEM Toyota LEDs. They replaced it with a new 2018+ LED and didn't even mention the (obviously) aftermarket wiring harness (most dealers don't like aftermarket).

Plus, it was delivered detailed inside and out, not bad. @TucsonTundra1794 , if I recall correctly, you said yours came back filthy from repairs. So, overall, not bad.

Recall work, never offered a ride, then they kept it two days extra because the didn’t have a part, dirty finger prints and multiple clips and fasteners not secure.
I’m still waiting for a knock on my door about the airbag recall…….

Sounds like your experience was way better then mine. They priced oem parts and I had to pay the difference for my parts. Even the oem parts that were for different models weren't covered like the pro grille.

Yep, all of you are correct here. Gabapentin started its life as a seizure med. Works by blocking nerve impulses that cause seizures. Turns out other drugs do a better job at this. However in the process they discovered this nerve blocking activity did a crack up job blocking pain transmission through nerves in addition to all the stuff that caused seizures. This nerve pain deal is a problem for normal pain meds because nerves can be pissed and transmitting pain when there isn't actually anything wrong in the body. The nerves are just telling the brain that shit hurts when nothing is wrong. So gabapentin basically filters out these BS signals so the brain never gets the message. Pain=gone.

Here's the bad news: dosing is real individual some people can get away with 100mg at bedtime and be good, others can do 800mg three times daily before they get pain relief. The side effects are dose dependent and everytime they up your dose you have to readjust to the side effects. Until your dose is effective and stable for 2-3 weeks you're likely to have the drowsiness and 'medicine head' side effects.
Bottom line, it's worth a try. It might not remove your use of aleve or ibuprofen, tramadol, hydrocodone or whatever but it IS treating the pain issue from a different angle that other pain meds don't.

    Thank you.
The new doctor suggested thhe 300 mg Gabapentin capsule when I told them how much Aleve I was taking.
I was prescribed to take 1 a night for 3 nights, 2 a night for 3 nights, and 3 a night from then on.
After reading all the side effects and the few here saying they took it and it didn't really help, I'm probably not going to take it.

I think my Aleve 'habit' is more psychological than anything.
Pain is always worse in the AM, then dwindles down throughout the day as I get moving.
It still hurts all day, but I can function and do most of my daily activities.
I just can't sit for 10 hours a day driving at work right now.

Going to try a few days without Aleve, or at least cut it down to 1, and see what happens this weekend.

    I truly appreciate your input..

Anytime brother. If you do decide to give it a go just start slow. That bedtime dosing business is so you can adjust to the side effects. You come out swinging any higher than that and you'll likely be a zombie.
Edit: there is another drug, Lyrica, actually a follow up version of gabapentin more specifically targeted for nerve pain. It's a little better with the side effects but can still leave you loopy while you adjust to it. It's another option anyway. Also available in generic so usually not too expensive to give it a try. Nerve pain can be a real bitch. I hope you can find something that works for you.

My wife had it and my cat was on it once. It turned them both into zombies - they'd just stare off into the distance. My wife said she wanted to talk but couldn't. Weird shit but she has weird reactions to all medication.

@Pillslinger - my VA Neurologist was able to get me on QULIPTA for my migraines. I take them at night because they make me a little dizzier than normal but since I've started taking them, I've been waking up without migraines. Freaking miracle pills.

So, I've NOT taken it; but, it is now a staple w/my dogs for pain management... So it was originally called neurontin and started off being used as an anti-seizure medicine w/secondary use as a strong neuropathic pain reliever for conditions such as diabetic neuropathy. The pain management world started using it as an alternative to stronger narcotic type pain meds because of tolerances seemed good for most folks, and Drs were able to use it very aggressively w/o many side effects.

My ex was put on neurontin after a healthy work up by the Mayo clinic in Scottsdale, and her Dr. there was VERY aggressive in terms of dosing... up to 2400mg/day in attempts to get her off the oxy crap. She had some luck w/it, but eventually ended up back on the oxy... that was back in 2004-2006ish...

Anyhow, fast forward several years, and around 2015 or so VETs started using Gabapentin for pain management on dogs w/a high level of success. It became and still is the go to now for post surgery, etc. in lieu of Tramadol, and it does not have the same side effects as the narcotics for the pups. They also found it to be effective in reducing anxiety when used in combination w/Tramadol (ironic) in stress inducing environments.

Ultimately, if I recall properly the ex's Dr. said that some folks w/nerve based pain syndromes respond very well and other don't. They believe the link between nerves, the brain, and pain management differs in people so the drugs effectiveness will vary heavily.

However, it's worth a shot and seems to not pose many if any significant risk.

    Hope this helps!

Her insurance would only let me go to Dan's (1st choice but booked several weeks out) and orilley Chevrolet. Mind you the accident was last October and I am still waiting for parts to get my truck back to original condition, and they lost my keys, and scratched my truck, and installed my bumper crooked, and took over 6 months before I just asked for my truck back and told them I'll install the parts when they come.
