My tailgate lock didn't work with my key so I installed the pop-and-lock so the tailgate handle locks with the doors. I also installed some vibration dampening to make the tailgate rattle less when I close it. It definitely sounds more solid but I think I need some dampening under the brake lights in the bed itself.

Took 3.5 hours. This could have been a 1-hour job but the lock wiring instructions were for some other year or model of tundra, so the wires I needed to tap into were the wrong colors in the wrong places... And there are many variations of Tundra wiring and I wasted a lot of time searching forums and YouTube and in trial and error. This video finally had the correct wiring.

Anyway on the occasion I have something of value in the bed, a would be criminal will now have to commit to cutting into my tonneau.

    1) Leveling kit 2) Sound system upgrade 3) Color matched grill 4) Leather seat covers
Installed Clazzio leather seat covers. Ran into a few issues but glad my father in law was around to assist. Not sure I could have done it as a one man job. Mostly satisfied with the fit and finish with exception of the rear folding armrest slash cup folder where the leather doesn’t take proper shape.

Looks good. I had a set in my old Camry and for the price compared to getting a leather kit installed, they definitely dressed up the interior nicely!

That’s awesome. I replaced my mirrors with a home link with auto darkening on all of my Toyotas, if I hadn’t I would definitely do this.

No, I ran the wire down the A pillar and wired an Add-a-Fuse to the harness. Plugged the fuse into the interior fuse box. However, after checking out Dongar (I had never heard of them before), that seems like a great plug and play option!

looking at the camburg uppers I would assume you drive pretty hard off road? How long did it take the bilsteins to start leaking? I've got 5100s that I've never had a problem with, but been looking at getting 6112s in the front instead of my eibachs

No on the off roading....I don't do any. Unfortunately mine is basically a 'for looks' only truck. I needed new uppers to fit my wheel/tire combo, no issues with the camburgs at all. As far as the bilstein mine started leaking sometime between at 20,000 miles after install. So needless to say I was pretty disappointed with that. Ultimately I thought I would give them.one more shot because of price and I liked how my truck set so we will see.....as far as the ride with the 6112....its fantastic. Rides like a stock truck.

I did this in my old car. Then started going to the junk yard and pulling $8 Gentex mirrors with homelink and wiring it in.

I have HomeLink in my truck, but am always afraid of some scumbag getting in to my and using it to get in to my garage and having access to my tools.

Presumably you’ve sprayed some kind of lube in there?
I often find that an excess of lube (til it’s running down the nice paintwork) then working the lock gently with the key will often free it up. Then rag the hinge off the paint when you’re done.

Thank you, but it appears the lock is jammed inside the part where the key enters, not the mechanism of all those pulleys.

The key locks fine, but won't turn in other direction. I tried all sorts of gentle love caressing, but she won't budge. Had to open the whole tailgate panel and free her up that way.

My truck lives in the garage. My state also got wise and stopped printing addresses on vehicle registrations.

I enjoy tinkering with locks and have been known to cut my own keys when the closest a place like Ace Hardware could get was to find a blank to fit the barrel! They aren’t rocket science but a slow methodical approach is best, especially if you are willing to go in blind.

A lock barrel is a remarkably simple device, if the key is still good and the mechanical parts good then it should just be a case of freeing up seized stuff in the barrel. Barrels get muck and salt damage over time, the harder the life your truck and tailgate has the more likely a barrel will seize.
You can remove the locking mechanism fairly easily from the Tundra, once the barrel housing is out it will become obvious if it is that giving issue - just by inserting key and trying in both directions, with all the mechanism off it will either continue to only turn in one direction or will work freely. If it still only works in one direction and copious lubing doesn’t work you can strip the barrel but if it’s not something you’re used to doing it can be a pain in the butt and probably time to fish out your wallet.
It wouldn’t be unheard of for a spring to fail but I’d be surprised for it to happen on something the age of a 2nd gen.
I have had issues on mine with the mechanical parts wearing so that the latch would not open the locks and with the plastic body’s mounting bolts coming adrift.

If it turns out that the barrel is working fine then it’s back to the mechanical stuff…

Thank you! Your post kindled my curiosity and desire to try and revive that lock! I'll give it a spin(pun) when I get enough free time(Haha, if I stop wasting time posting on these forums all day long)

Who knows, perhaps I'll make a career in lock picking and land myself a new tundra!

I worry about this too, I have my hooked up to ACC so it only works with power.
