How much trimming to fit 35's with a Coach Builder kit on stock rims with no spacers?

How much trimming is necessary to fit 35's with a Coach Builder kit on stock rims with NO spacers? I have broken a spacer in the past and wont use one again, but I like the stock rims and I like the look of a 35. I used the search but there is so much info on similar questions that I cant find what I am looking for.

My understanding is that the width is the main problem with 35s. What brand did you break? I am about to install Bora spacers and put 35x12.5r18 (stock trd pro rims 2017)

 

A 35 might hit the UCA without spacers? The 2 trustworthy spacers are Bora and Spidertrax. Did you break one of those?

 

Lots of information here:
For 35" it's usually the front mud flap, regardless of offset, and possibly the cab mount chop. Without spacers (or different offset wheels) probably the skid plate adjustment/chop also.

I had a rugged ridge (Summit racing brand?) spacer break and nearly had a wheel fall off on the highway with wife and kids in the car. I was able to make it off the road, but had snapped 4 of the 5 spacer lugs (best way I can think to describe the lugs attaching the wheel to the spacer)I had always been told not to use spacers or adapters ever, but read enough on the internet about people using them that i made myself comfortable. im sure there are better brands available, I just dont want to use another spacer. I appreciate all the replies.

Some people have to do a CMC and some say you dont. I ordered a Coach Builders Kit and Im going to have a local shop do a CMC since I dont want to have issues off roading.

 

Are u using wheel spacers on all 4 wheels?

 

Well I just put down my Die Grinder to eliminate my rubbing issue. I am a bit higher after a 3" lift from @Toytec Lifts but I went with 35x12.5x20 and after removing all the front plastics i still had to grind about an 1/8 off the bottom of front bumper. Would only rub in reverse but now that is fixed. The shop that installed my lift destroyed one of my plastics.. so waiting on the replacements before I attempt to heat and bend them back in place.

 

I ordered 4... I didn't want the stance to be weird.

 

3” lift with 285/65/20’s at +18 you’re good with just trimming about an inch off the front well piece behind fogs.

 

Any update on this?

 

I installed bora 1.25 spacers and 35x12.5 and there is no rubbing on the frame.

What are you looking for specifically? 35x12.5r18 BFG K02 I had to remove the mudflaps

 

Just generally how the 35s look on stock wheels with the spacers. I have a set of 35 nitto trail grapplers sitting in the garage since Christmas. Haven’t found the aftermarket wheels I want yet so I might just throw them on the factory wheels.

 

@Bigrobdsp, just to give ya another angle on this. I have 295's which are 11.6 " wide. There's about 3/4" between tire and UCA. You definitely would need to go with aftermarket rims +18 - 25 is a great start. I have Spider Trak 1 1/4" spacers with no issues, but I definitely understand your concern. One of our suspension lift guru's will chime in I'm sure. The 295 is only 0 .4" smaller in diameter, not much, but a 1" narrower than the 35. Good luck

 

You would have to drop a Spidertrax spacer from outer space to break it, and even then...

 

What issues you think I may have with same size tire but on stock rims, lifting front 3"?

 

I'm looking at installing a 3" lift on front and want to install 28/65/20s. So width is about 11.2. I was concerned about rubbing the UCAs, anyone think that will be a problem or should be able to clear with that width?
Also, is there anything else that will need to be done, skid pate, etc?
I'd rather stay away from spacers if possible.

 

It’s not the spacer that breaks it’s the lugs. Had a tire fly off on the FJ. G2 brand. Swore them off but about to put a coachbuilder kit on it says “required” with stock wheels. It might keep me from buying the coachbuilder kit all together is this is truly the case.

i think the spacers are required for coachbuilder kits with no other mods to run 35s. But if you have different UCA, BMC done and trim some plastics i think you don’t need the spacers. Maybe Dave can chime in.

 

35x1250 will hit the UCA if using stock +60 wheels. Metric 35s. 285/75-18 fit better and will clear the UCA.

You probably never will. I guess a lot of Jeeps run them but F*** that. They literally shredded. What a joke of a company. That being said, ive also never heard anyone say they had issues with their spidertrax or Bora. I was young when those spacers went on, didnt know shit about trucks/cars, and let someone other than myself (Americas Tire) install them. They fucked everything up, and ended up paying me for it.
