Is it due to lane centering? I’ve never had any sway but have had a feeling like sway when it centers itself while driving. Turn it off or change sensitivity and see if it helps.

If this isn’t your issue and your truck is truly having sway, I have not experienced this a bit.

When you say grooves on road. Is it on concrete roads? Concrete roads usually have tined surface.

Some tires tend to tramline more than other. I’ve road test many cars after doing tires and on same straight of highway that has concrete, some tires cause swaying and others won’t.

That’s exactly what it is. My old truck and or wife’s Yukon doesn’t do it. Could it be the small tires they have on them?

Not really the size of tire that can cause tramlining but the tire design. Some tires have tread that can cause it to tramline.

I don't recall ever seeing a road with tined surfaces going in the direction of travel. Usually they are perpendicular to the direction of travel to allow the water to channel off. Now an open deck bridge would white knuckle me with every vehicle I drove across it. Especially motorcycles with the old universal block tread design.

It's been my experience that certain tread designs track the highway rain grooves better than others making for an uncomfortable ride . . .

I have a limited with air bags that feels like it wiggles in the back end. I never paid attention to the type of surface I was on. My 2005 tundra never felt like this. I am hoping an after market will have a solution.

My SR5 has been swaying down the road lately. Seems to have started right around the same time I took the front and rear sway bars off. ‍

I have realized the wiggle does only occur on the roads with the grooves in the surface, so I am thinking it is the tires tamlining as mentioned above

Current traveling from Denver to KC on I70. On the concrete sections with the grooved concrete there is quite a bit of tram-lining. The grooves run with the traffic.
My wife said she felt like a bobble head in the passenger seat and I agree. We switched from Normal to Sport and the tram-lining is less (improved but not gone).
Limited 4x4 standard suspension. Stock tires, just can’t remember brand.
Not hoping to replace tires but if I had to do this trip on the regular it would drive me nuts.

What if you let go of the wheel and just let the truck find its way through the grooves?

@WTFKansas , your truck pic in avatar looks retarded

I wonder if it has anything to do with the electric power steering and lane tracing assist. Maybe the system sees the grooves in the pavement and tries to follow them? I've driven that stretch of I70 several times and never noticed anything like that, but never in a 22 Tundra. The wind through there can for sure can give you a rough day though.

Tbrandt, I don't think it is the Lane Keep Assist. There are no issues on the older worn-down concrete sections or on those that are asphalt.

Just wondering. Our 2020 Highlander with the lane assist will try to follow joint lines in the asphalt sometimes.

Lane assist is nice sometimes, but almost caused me to crash my wife's rav4. Going thru a construction zone where the barricades are on and a little over the centerline so you have to drive on or a little over the white line. Damn thing kept trying to steer me into the barricades and it was the first time I ever needed to turn that shit off so I had no clue where the button was.

Yes, I've got the 2023 Limited with the air suspension and I've experienced this swaying on the freeways in Michigan where (and only where) they are grooved. No effect from turning on or off the lane assist. I've never felt this driving any other vehicle, so I'm assuming it's the Bridgestone tread pattern interacting with the grooved spacing. Any better insights shared here would be appreciated!

Maybe the airbags are causing it? Are you able to set it to zero psi?

    Hi topdec,

It's a good point that maybe since all new Tundra owners aren't experiencing this that it's somehow related to the air suspension.

From my understanding, the air suspension is not adjustable by human intervention while driving -- only that you can raise or lower the back end a few inches when stopped or at speeds below 18mph. Above 18mph it then it resets to 'level'.
