Do these look like OEM CVs?

I'll keep em to send out to rebuild if so.

Only tag is a pink one on one of them with writing I can't make out.

 

They look OEM to me, the pink sticker is a for sure indicator. Toyota does sell remans for $80ish + $75 core charge depending on the dealer.

 

Here's some of my miscellaneous axle parts for reference.

Top one in the first picture is an aftermarket Import Direct. The bottom two are OEM.

Agree and especially if you can make out more of that part #....43430-0C010 is part # for an 04 and other years.

Slightly related, but I ended up ordering a re-manufactured OEM CV from my local dealer for $83 and plan to return my core when I pick it up so there's no shipping costs. I'll post a picture of it when it arrives. The re-manufactured part number is 43430-0C010-84.

 

That's a great deal. I've never seen anyone else mention this option. I would have done this over ordering from CVJ.

 

When I bought an axle I don't think they were available or I didn't see them, considering new units were back-ordered at the time. Otherwise I would've considered them without a doubt.

If you're sending back the core, it may be a bit more economical to buy locally since they won't pay for the return shipping.

If you're buying an axle and not returning the core though, say if you want a spare, this is a great price ($155ish shipped). If you did the same thing through CVJ, it would be $387 plus shipping.

CVJs have the benefit of the high angle boots, but you could always install a high angle Porsche 934/935 boot yourself cheaper if you're wanting the high angle boot. Changing out CV boots isn't terribly difficult.

 

I'm not even convinced the high angle boots are that important unless you're lifted over 2" and doing a lot of serious off roading. I've also seen a few people have their CVJ boots tear in a short amount of time. Mine seem to be holding up well so far but I would have been happy with OEM axles.

 

I can see the benefits, but I am not entirely convinced either. I haven't had any issues with my CV boots tearing with my use, I did have one clamp that started to allow grease to seep out though. I'm sure the CVJ boots themselves are nice products, but to me there's more economical ways of achieving the final goal.

I see these reman OE CVs are way cheaper than new OE ones. Is the quality the same?

 

I'm assuming if Toyota is reselling them at dealerships, they've gone through some level of OEM-grade quality process and check.

Yes, I have faith Toyota has high re-manufacture standards like their new production standards for these parts. OEM have done me very very well.

The Import Direct axle I have in my possession is a lot lighter than my OEM axles. I don't know how to describe it, but the OEM axles feel and look superior in every way.

 

OEM remanufactured CV axle came in.

I'm curious who rebuilds them now, and if us down here in southern states (or ordering from a southern/west coast dealership) could or would net you pieces that didn't see any salt roads.

Granted, you're clearly southwest, I'd have expected a smoother axle.
