What was the first vehicle you owned, how much did it cost you? and share a memory about it that stands out in your mind.

My first car was a 1970 Olds Cutlass, in 1984. Forrest Green! $200. Lots of fun memories, but one that really stands out was the fact that the trunk was so rotted out that the short tailpipes would allow the exhaust to creep through the vacant 6x9 speaker holes in the back window area. Riding around with a car full of friends wouldn't last so long. But it was hilarious. An older friend at the time named it "The Green Coffin". Problems were fixed, but that name always sticks in my head.

1995 Ford Escort in 2001. x-rental car. Biggest POS ever! Torque converter went out, trans went out, over heated a few times, etc. granted, I drove that car like I was trying out for the "Fast and the Furious"

Parents bought it for me..I think around 2-3k? Had 120k on it, I think.

I red-lined the 4 speed auto at every gear, pulled the e-brake at 45mph plus..name it - I did it lol.

1987 Toyota Pickup, 2WD 2.4L 22R-E, 4 speed manual. No power steering. Was so light it was quick and nimble. Couldn't put much more than 400 lbs in the bed without bogging the engine down though. Purchased for. $1500 with 150k to 200k miles on it (from uncle). Had it for 4 years. Clutch wore out so I replaced it and master cylinder. No other issues at all with the truck.

So many memories in this truck. Faster than a Barretta :). Makes doughnuts look easy. Could hold 2nd gear to like 80mph but shakes like crazy at 100mph. Offroading, not so much.
Disliked it but loved it all the same.
Still remember the smell of the interior.

There's nothing like the smell of older vehicles, one of those timeless things. Ahhh, doughnuts... :)

Absolutely, it might not be the best smell but it's enjoyable and brings back memories.

1969 Pontiac Executive. $400. Got it with 44K miles and tons of rust and dents. My old man bought it for me from an even older man who I suspect was mostly blind judging by all the gouges in the steering column around the ignition switch. I will always remember that it could sit ten of my friends comfortably and had no B-pillar so that when you rolled down both windows it was cavernous. It was this great, deep Pontiac green so we called it The Tortoise.

Cool car. My friend back in the day drove his parent's version similar to this one:

The first vehicle I got was back in 90/91 and it was an 85 S-10 Blazer. It was such a great vehicle. It had low miles and I think I got it for around 4k? I put so much time & hard earned money into it to make it the way I wanted. Originally it was navy blue & gray but the first "mod" I did was had it painted from a friend who painted vehicles, so I got a great deal. Next thing I did was upgraded the wheels followed by replacing the entire stereo system with subs, amps, crossovers, tweeters, mids/highs. That sound system was probably worth more than the car & it screamed. Loved that vehicle.

Jim Rome, TV/radio sports guy, made fun of the XR4TI for years. Had some sort of mental complex with what the he** does XR4TI mean? :p

My first car was a '67 Ford Galaxie 500. Bought it from an old lady whose husband gave it to her for Christmas in '66. The car had just over 100,000 miles and was in perfect condition. All receipts of service and repairs were in the glove compartment. I paid $300 for it in 1983. Just found this one which is identical to the one I had on ebay going for $17,000! Guess I should have held onto it.

Speaking of sound systems worth more than the car. My second vehicle was a Pontiac Sunbird, Canary Yellow, $200. I spent $1400 on a system. Denon deck, Alpine passive Eq, 4- Alpine Speakers and an Alpine amp. I remember jamming to Salt n Pepa, an Rob Base-Joy and Pain. LOL, great times!

I love that car. My dad had one when I was very young. Remember the times I got to go to work with him in it, I was 5. I'd love to own one of these today.

Here you go! 2.3L of turbo power!
The Merkur XR4Ti [eXperimental Racing, 4 series, Turbo, advanced Injection system]was a short-lived United States and Canada-market version of the European Ford Sierra XR4i. It was the brainchild of then Ford vice president Bob Lutz. It was sold in the US from 1985 to 1989.

Nice! The setup I had in the Blazer was: A Sony deck, Sonly 6x9's & 5 1/2's, 2 - Punch 12's, Rockford Fosgate Punch 45 amp, AudioControl crossover, Sherwood Amp (don't recall the model number or wattage). That system was so loud. I used to blast Geto Boys & Slayer in the parking lot of the catholic school I went to. Needless to say the nuns & teachers always gave me the dirtiest looks. :headbang:

Cool. I always wondered myself. I remember seeing a few. Certainly easier saying XR4Ti than eXperimental Racing, 4 series, Turbo, advanced Injection system. heh heh

1972 VW super beetle...right before they went to a curved front window. I bought it from my sisters friend back in 2001... It was matte white with a custom black leather bra, lowered, nice wheels, stinger exhaust that was loud as hell, and had a new engine put in...wish I still had that thing, it was a lot of fun. It had tons of little quirks but what old VW didn't:) wish I could find my pics of it...if I come across any I will post em up:D Paid 1700 of my hard earned grocery bagger money...haha

My first 'functional' vehicle (with 4 wheels--used to ride a Yamaha) was the full size Chevy van (before the minivan era). Loved that thing. I had it close to 10 years without doing any major work. This was before the Chevy quality took a nose dive.

A librarian T-boned my new 1976 302 Bronco and I got a new V dub rental for a month. I took that beetle up muddy logging roads where most of the time you needed a 4X4. Go figure.

'77 Plymouth Arrow identical to this one. It was made by Mitsubishi and the only thing "Plymouth" about it was the name badge. Had it for less than 6 months because I had to sell it to pay off a DUI. The things we do when young and dumb...:(

No MOPAR parts I take it? A friend had a new 76? Chevette. The Arrow was the better car by far. I remember the Chevette was a couple of weeks old and the shifter came clear off in his hand while shifting. POS x 1 million
