Soooooo I've finally decided to replace my entire stereo system in my 2016 Tundra. I'm starting with the head unit. What do I need for backup camera and steering wheel retention? Can I avoid spending $300 on the maestro interface? Crutchfield tells me I can get a PAC unit. Will this work? I already have a head unit picked out(or narrowed down to two). Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have the non-JBL head unit.

I just did my 2016. I sprung for the Maestro system and it 100% works. But if your going that way make sure the head unit has the idatalink connector. Nice having a screen for TPMS, custom gauges and ability to turn the rear camera on while driving down the road.

I've never had any luck getting an Axxes or PAC interface to work.
Along with the RR module, the basic hrTO2 cable will retain backup and steering wheel. You would need a radio antenna adapter, possibly a usb adapter, and a new bezel as well.

You said non-JBL, is that non-jbl with amp or without.

In all I spent about $700.

Did you replace anything else or just the head unit? My truck has a little amp under the passenger side seat.

So yours is the same as mine, the amplified non-JBL. That's one of the questions when programming the Maestro RR, so it can still use the amp.

Look at both place. Find the beat price with reputable sellers. You can also get them through crutchfield.com. They offer real good customer service. Can’t say the same for ebay or Amazon when it come to tech support.

I bought cables from crutchfield and the module and dash bezel from Amazon. That netted the best price, on the day I was oredering, also the Amazon delivery time on the hrTO2 harness was over a week, Crutchfield was 2 days.

Every question I had, I emailed maestro, they always responded within 24 hours. All my questions were pre purchase just to make sure I got the right parts. Once the parts were here the install was super easy.

I'm old so I need a CD player. I'm thinking either the JVC KW-V66BT or the Kenwood DDX5707S.

I used a Pioneer DMH 2600 NEX. I wanted both Carplay and the idatalink OBD2 data screens.
Based on the Maestro website the DMX9907 is not compatible with the idatalink features. So if that is important you need to go to the site and look at the options that will work. They have a list of fully compatible head units.

the list of headunits is here: https://www.idatalinkmaestro.com/en/compatible-products/radios

both of these radio is the exact radio. Only different is the UI. Some prefer the kenwood UI some like jvc UI. It is the same radio inside and out.

one thing to note. We put the same jvc in my friend’s 2013 highlander. It can be slightly laggy. Better than the kw-v350bt. The 350bt was pretty laggy when you go to touch a selection. To the point it was annoying and we end up returning it. The v660bt/66bt was much better being that it’s a capacitive touch screen. Touch and it go. My friend like it much better over the 350bt. He used Android Auto, wired, for the first time and said it is nice and convenient. As far as sound quality goes, the 350bt have a more robust sound settings. Like sound effect and sound lift. The kenwood/jvc k2 technology for sounds processing. The v660bt only have bass boost and loud for their sound effect. It doesnt have the k2 technology in it. Both have their standard eq, time alignment, crossover. That’s something to consider if you thinking bout the jvc radio.

The ddx have a cd drive. But they are the same. Dmx is digital media only. No cd drive.
    That’s according to this vid.
