It begins...



The Taco is gone... Time to start my Soccer mom build, the third kid is on the way! I have to say I like the 5.7 it pulls.

As it sits on Day one a 2013 SR5 package 4wd w/50k on it.

 

My Tacoma, I'll own one again. Or maybe an FJ. I miss it, I had a lot of good times in this rig on trails in NorCal.

 

And after 10 days:

5100s all around for now.
3/2 lift
BMF 17x8.5 wheels +6 offset (5 inches backspacing)
285/70/17 MTRs (35 Toyo RTs later after this set is toast)
K&N
Exhaust next Thursday.

Congratulations on the little one!

I enjoyed modding the heck out of my Tacoma. For now I'm working on UCAs, 3 inch lift up front and 2 in the rear. 35 inch mts. I will end up with Icon or Kings up front at some point, but the rear needs a lot of research. Right now, I can't find any info on aftermarket springs to firm up the back or remote resi's made for that application. It looks like the back only has 5.56 or so inches of travel. So for now 5100s and a rear shock extender.

After that is done I want to look at front bumpers that are winch ready.

Ultimate plan, is to make it into a family overland rig that can still DD.

Nice looking rig! How are you getting the 3/2 inch lift from the 5100's?

Hattori is correct. I set the shocks to zero to keep the travel, and limit spring preload, then used an steel spacer puck lift on the top. The ride isn't bad to be honest. I'll still go to beefer aftermarket coilovers later. This will work for the time being.

What spacers did you use for the rear? Thinking about going with the ome shocks and springs for the front lift on mine. Trying to figure out what to do for the rears. Also what exhaust did you end up going with?

 

I used the 2inch spacers off of eBay. I believe the supplier/branding was Blitz. They were 55 bucks. I want to get some custom springs bent for 2.5 inches of lift down the road, but I will be waiting until I have a better idea on the weight of the rear bumper w/tire swing out.


Exhaust goes on Wednesday. It's a manga flow 50 series. I'll post up some pictures and a sound bite. It is the only direct fit weld in that I could get with the two in one out setup. Flow masters are all directional. I also don't want it too loud or raspy since I have little one. At any rate that was the best route I could find without a whole system cat back solution or a lot of rerouting of the pipes. The cat back systems all started around $550 more than this option before install.

Are rear spacers the only option to lift the rears on these? They look good lifted!

 

No you can have custom springs bent up to probably three inches, after that you'd need to extend the rear axles and a few other things.

There are no kits for the rear other than spacers though that I could find that were plug and play like the tundras or 4runners. Rear shock options are limited as well.

This is the closet that I have seen so far on getting the rear up. Along with the front if you running a stock height 5100, 4600, or stock shock.

Loved my Tacos......ABSOLUTELY ADORE MY TUNDRA!!! If you like the 5.7 on the sequoia then take that to the next truck.

Ya, I like the 5.7 and they just released a turbo for the flex fuel so...

 

Update:
Dobinsons springs makes an off the shelf +45mm 1.8 inch of lift spring set for the rear. I'm still looking into a custom set as I want 2.25 for an aftermarket rear bumper.

I picked up a set of Fox 2.5 remote Resi's for $400 bucks, and it looks like I'll be out about $650.00 with the rebuild, $780 with new #650 rate springs. I'm super stoked.

Did you get a price for the off the shelf vs custom price? I am still looking into front coilovers I want kings but I might have to settle for old man emu

 

I couldn't wait the curiosity got the best of me. Called up Dobinson and they said $250 for the 1.8" springs and that they were going to contact the engineer to see if it would be possible/ worth while to make 2.5" springs. How do we round up enough people to get them to design new springs for us select few sequoia people?

We could tell them that they would have the market cornered and put them in contact with SDHQ, Downsouthmotorsports, and Wheelers. None of those guys have any off the shelf options that I have been able to find.
