Both the "Champion" claim made in jest and your claims of "sorely disappointing" which are subjective have no bearing on the facts, nor do they represent the masses experience with the truck. If its purely a numbers game, the Tundra does not have the max numbers in any category. If its driving experience, obviously that will be subjective. Claiming it's the best or the worst is just that, like, your opinion man. Sorry you hate your truck.

If only you'd had a Ford so you would have been able to pull your trailer out of the way before that tree fell.

If tough is your requirement then you should purchase "Ford Tough".

Because, as we've already discovered: Tundra is pulling champion.

Let's hitch a 6500 lb trailer to my 6500 lb Tundra and then to a 4500 lb Ford and then see which one is nicer to tow with.

Well, when you can do a 1->1 comparison with the same trailer.. .it ceases to be subjective... because you have a grounded basis to compare the ability of vehicles with that specific trailer... .which I HAVE had the ability to do. You see, our recent trip to Blanco resulted in my friend driving my truck and pulling his trailer since my wondrous Tundra saw fit to overheat the trailer brakes when the gain was adjusted appropriately for them with it. The 2017 Ford F-150 with the 3.5 EcoBlast (EcoBoost) did a better job of pulling the trailer in winds coming back than my Tundra did going down. Of course, that may be partially because I had to basically deactivate the IBC since the controller was causing the hubs to get so hot they could barely be touched (but did not have the same issue coming back towing with the Ford F-150.
And no, I don't "hate" my truck... in fact, I actually love it... but it's in NO way a "towing champion" by any means of the phrase.

Yep... because the dealer sold me a 6 month newer TR5 TRD Offroad 4WD with LED headlights for the same price as we paid for the 2019 TSS Offroad 2WD. Would be an absolute idiot to pass up that deal since they were sympathetic to what happened. Now, if I had known we were going to get a larger RV... most likely would have passed on the deal.

Already have done so.... and did it in 38mph cross-winds... actually the Ford was a little nicer in several aspects. Both had a tendency to walk in the higher winds that we had, Tundra going down and Ford coming back.

I have a '17 with the legendary transmission cooler, it pulls anything and everything.

Readily apparent you aren't much of a RV'er... as ANY one with any history of towing RV's knows that TV refers to Tow Vehicle. All others are simply poseurs.

Did you get the brake controller issue figured out? Mine does not do that. I see complaints in here about the factory built in module being inadequate for them, but mine has performed well. No complaints. Have a P3 in my FGT that behaves about the same way, so not sure what the issues with the factory one are.

I WISH the 19 had a transmission cooler instead of the little puck that Toyota tries to push off as one. I'd feel a little more comfortable about longevity. Hell, 230*+ temps in East Texas in the upper 80's is a little higher than I feel comfortable with... but Toyota in their all-knowing experience apparently thinks that will be acceptable. Time will tell.

The puck can be swapped for the transmission cooler. I hear a lot of noise about the lack of a cooler here as well, just haven't seen the wave of transmission failures to go with all the fist shaking.

No, and it's a little aggravating as I've taken it in twice to the local dealership and they report "working as expected"... but cannot seem to explain why when I adjust the gain to work the properly adjusted trailer brakes to how they should respond to application of the manual process on the Toyota the trailer brake hubs overheat, but don't do it with any other vehicle I've used (being in East Texas I've got a LOT of friends with trucks that haul trailers that need electronic brakes).

I'm a literal person... I have VERY little patience with game players. Probably a lot of that has to do with my lengthy time as a patrol officer and then in IT work.

That will only come with time... as I said, I have real concerns when the transmission temp is in the mid 230° range on a moderate East Texas day with minimal hills. I haven't pulled the RV when it's been 100° in the same area yet, as that is normally hotter than what we enjoy camping in.
I looked at putting in an aftermarket transmission cooler, but my local dealer (who I generally like) told me they would invalidate any transmission repairs needed if I did, and that it would be MY responsibility to try to argue their invalidity of their position.

Same way I spell calibre instead of caliber.... it's just something that is normal for some. And historically that spelling is correct... the spelling you chose to use is more "slang". You may want to research the etymology of the word.
Sorry if I don't speak "red neck"enough fo' ya'. We'ums will tries betters. You see, for a long time I had to write reports using proper English.

Just spitballing here.. I wonder if you add another puck or two, might help your situation? Try asking your local dealer to cover it due to your high trans temps.

Doubt seriously that they would.. as when I was talking to him about the brake issue I mentioned the temperatures that the OBDC was reporting and the Service Manager simply shrugged his shoulders and made a comment that the transmission fluid was fine for that temperature. All I know is I have a 7 year/100K warranty on it... and I'll gladly hold their feet to the fire if the tranny starts acting up the least little bit, especially now that we've started hauling the RV more since we are retired.

When I had my 2019 I added an aftermarket AUX cooler. Not a bad install, and kept everything inline with previous temps. Highest I saw after the cooler was 215

They are fun until folks start throwing their opinions in. It's a pity that often actual numbers interfere with the opinions like "I've been pulling 24K behind my Tundra at 80MPH and getting 23MPG and do it all day long".
Then you have those that get butt-hurt when you say anything negative about their favorite <fill in the blank>. Point is... the Tundra is FAR from a towing champion. It is a nice truck and does a moderately adequate job, but when compared to equivalent year models it is lacking, and has been for a few years. Gaslighting doesn't change that simple fact.... numbers don't lie.

When I first got this one, I kept up with the thread that talked about adding back the cooler and the kit that was developed using many OEM parts. That's the one I asked my local dealer about (nearest other dealer is about 70 miles away) and they were the ones that advised that if did so and had any issues, as soon as they saw it the problem became my responsibility and it would be up to my to prove them wrong. Wasn't worth it to me, and at the time we weren't towing that much, but now we go about every 2-3 weeks for at least a 4 day trip, and it's usually 90-400 miles for each trip.

OP hasn't been seen since starting this thread. Maybe he traded it in and is now on the Ford Forums complaining about stuff.

    Hear hear!!

$10 says professional TV race driver and Wal-Mart stock room report author (Pulitzer holder) @Tracy Perry still has the break-in oil in the crank case of his current pulling champion Tundra.

Further, I wager $.33 that when they do change the oil they go to the dealership for a free stripped drain plug/collapsed oil filter.

There's plenty to complain about the Fords... not a fan of the V-6 with turbos... and one of my main complaints with the new 2022 Tundra. Our local dealer had 6 of the 9 that they sold shortly after it's' release come back in with turbo issues. Not a promising start to the "Toyota Reliability" fantasy that many have.
And I'm sad to say, it HAS been about 2 years since I last logged on here as other things presented themself in life.... and since many of the issues I had with the Tundra were ongoing problems that nobody was getting a resolution to (mainly the joke of an IBC that Toyota provided) I didn't see any real need to come back here.
How, if the Administrators of the site didn't like older posts being responded to, then there IS an option in XenForo to not flag posts as new after a set number of days (and I know this as I have EXTENSIVE experience with XenForo, IPS, Wotlab and a few other forum scripts as an admin).
So, if you have an issue with people responding to what are shown as "new" posts with someone that hasn't logged in for a while... maybe you would better address it to the site admins?
