Sadly, the ones that look the best and have good range are more money than I am willing to spend on a car. Can't imaging the insane registration cost for a Tesla in Wyoming.

Here is Nelson the peacock showing off for one of the chickens. He’s just over a year old, so his train hasn’t started to really fill in.

He’s “wild” (just showed up one day last spring with who we assume is his mother, Josephine). They live in the trees around our property, mostly above our chicken coop.
    E9EAC5C0-ECF0-4FD0-9C23-7482458345F3.jpg

Kevin was the first peacock that just showed up one day out our house - in July of 2018. About 1-1/2 months ago, all three of them just disappeared - we assumed the worst (coyotes), but it seemed odd they had made it this long wild.

One neighbor had seen Nelson about half mile away in one direction, which would kind of make sense because the males are territorial and Nelson was getting old enough. Then we learned from our other neighbor that Josie had three babies over by his shop that he was trying to keep sheltered/protected, and that Kevin was now hanging out at another place about 1/2 mile the other direction where someone had four new peacocks in a cage/coop.

A little over a week ago, coyotes managed to get the three babies, and Josie started hanging out by our chickens again making a bunch of noise. About three days later, Nelson was in the yard again. We don’t know if Kevin will come back yet or not, but the neighbor has let HIS neighbor know that Kevin is wild and is not to be caged up with his other four.

    Kevin, earlier this spring:

That's awesome. Wonder if the guy with the caged ones would let them loose and you guys would have a little neighborhood flock to enjoy.

FML. Apparently Wyoming doesn't want you to have an EV. There's a flat $200 fee in addition to regular registration.

Hey, Sean, @T-Rex266 what's the MSRP for the Tesla you got? I found a tool that calculates the cost of plates for my area, but Wyoming goes off of the factory value to determine the cost.

So MSRP of 66. That's what they use. I'll punch it in when I have a free moment. Stuff is hectic at work for a minute.

Honestly - they are cool birds but three hanging around is plenty.
They are peeping Toms (my daughter’s bedroom window has the porch roof right outside of it). They are loud during mating season (~March-early July), and they can be kind of bullish to the other birds (Kevin used to constantly torment our old rooster). They also leave much bigger shits than the chickens do…

Ok, so in the tool I'll use the $50,640 for a model 3 LR. Personally I think the S and X look way better, but let's try a budget one and see what the plates would be.

    upload_2022-7-2_22-15-40.jpg

Almost a grand. Lets look at one the same price if it were used, say a 2019...

    upload_2022-7-2_22-16-45.jpg

Also, add in the $200 electric vehicle fee to both of those. :(

Fair enough. I've heard they are loud as hell, but man are they good lawn ornaments.

I pay enough in fuel, thank you. :spending:

Oh, wait, now that I read that, it's a different estimate. The state gives zero Fs about your savings, so they'd go off the $62,990 and this is what you get. Plus a $200 annual fee for an EV.

Yeah, I corrected that. The cost of the car is more than all the fuel, tires, maintenance, and accessories that my Tundra will use in it's lifetime. No benefit for me to get an EV. Maybe if I win the lotto.

I just might end up getting sushi tomorrow lol. So I did the sketchiest climb of my life by far and I will post the picture that shows how high up and far away I was (Tacoma is almost dead center in first picture if you zoom and squint really hard) and then a slightly zoomed in one. It was definitely a trusty steed today on super rough roads and did everything that I asked of it.

Yup. That's why the whole "Wyoming is low cost of living because of no state income tax and low property tax" stuff is such a lark. Proportional to income we're not a low cost of living state and especially not if you drive a vehicle that had an MSRP over $20K-$30K. You get dinged for that every year. It's a stupid system for it because it's based off MSRP and not age. Expensive vehicles are punished in WY.

Nope. It’s built in with a precision leveled 44’ bed (to do 40’ long pieces of pipe), 25’ outfeed, two computer controllers and a shit ton of support equipment (8x3x8 control cabinet, high-cycle plasma power transformer, bulk gas piping to feed the head with shielding gas). It’s a $750k setup, can cut up to 48” diameter pipe with a 1-1/4” thick wall.

not our machine, but an example of a complicated cut on them same basic setup. Ours has a higher power “fineline” plasma - cuts a little cleaner and faster. But this isn’t really the sort of cuts we normally do.
    https://youtu.be/f-gfobVfai0

this is more of a “bread and butter” cut for us - a pipe saddle used for making a tee (saves on the number of welds we have to make). That cut end is ready to weld when it comes off the plasma without any significant prep or hand fitting.

They keep talking about the same thing in WA (or maybe it is in place), even for hybrids to help offset the loss of gas tax revenue.

All that and they are still cool? Dang.

You are up to Seattle prices now. Nuts.
