38 or 46? I’m torn between the pros and cons of each…

Did you do the transfer flow for the full 46 or whatever gallons or use a newer OE tank?

I put 300k miles on my ‘08 with the 26 gallon tank… i could pass anything but a gas station in it!

OP - you’re looking at a truck that has low miles and was basically unchanged mechanically from 2007-2021. If there’s no rust issues and no other problems, and the price is right, I’d jump on it.

I did the 38 got a deal on the tank plus I was in California at the time and had to deal with their bs laws so a 46 wouldn’t pass. All over again go 46 the computer never reads correct and says ur lower then u are plus the 38 makes u fill up when you have a ton in reserve

My only concern is why the low mileage. If the person selling it seem like a straight up person then I don’t see any problem.

Back in 17, I bought a 14 with 3k miles on it. Love it. Only have 56k on it now, and I just started working from home.

Echoing the general sentiment here - a low mileage 2015 in general - no, nothing that would stop me from buying. The tank is a negative to some - guess depends on how much you drive and how remote your commute is - clearly for the prior owner it wasn’t much of an issue having to fill up more frequently and probably not a bad thing.

Vehicle in specific - first thought I have is price ?? I mean would I pay 20k for a 15 with ultra low miles - sure. 30k - probably closer to market reality - and if I liked it yes. 35k+ is where it gets questionable to me even on a 4wd - I mean lots of NEW trucks in the 50s - and reality is a 25k mile ‘15 is probably no more or less reliable than say a ‘18 with 75k miles that’s going to sell for a similar price. Your trading age for hours/miles - each comes with its own type of wear.

As to why the prior owner didn’t use it much - really wouldn’t concern me at all - but then again I’ve owned my ‘21 a year and have a whopping 810 miles on it. Just a 2nd vehicle and I tend to use my work car for errands.

I have a 2018 I bought in 12 of 2020 w/ 2400 miles. Just turned over 9,600 today and that includes a trip from Fl. to and from Tx. As new garage kept. Super good trk. Traded a 2007 w/ 15,00 miles in 2020. Do not be afraid of low miles if good records, Have a 2017 Jeep Rubicon w/ 1,400 miles always garaged. Retired , love to have toys and have NEVER had the 1st person that looked @ any of my vehicles that were for sale not buy due to having ALL service records. 34Ford
