Hello from NorCal

I am new to the Tundra scene. I previously had an 07 Tacoma and left the truck game for a while. My next truck would be a 2019 F-150, that’s transmission would slip and the dealer told me it was normal, I was driving it wrong or that I needed to leave it in Tow/Haul mode to make it not slip.

I sold the F-150 to CarMax a couple weeks ago for what I paid for it. And toyed with the idea of a Tundra. Quickly found out how hard they were to find at MSRP. I played with the build and price thing on Toyota.com and found that I wanted a Platinum Hybrid 4x4. I called around and was basically told that it didn’t exist. However I found the EXACT truck I built at a dealer about an hour away. I called them and they were asking 105k. And I told them no thanks and moved on. Stating I wasn’t in a rush and wouldn’t pay markup.

Three weeks went by and I get a call asking what it would take for me to come and test drive it. I told them no markup. The salesman told me that they are negotiating the markups and if I came in he’d fill up my car, deal not not. So I drove my wife’s Venza up on empty, test drove it and tried to walk away. They said to come negotiate, and when they weren’t budging I walked. The salesman kept his word and filled up my wife’s car and as I loaded up the kids the sales manager came back and offered it to me at MSRP, if I agreed to buy Permaplate. I didn’t want to but I thought it was too good of a deal to pass up. And I left with a 2022 Tundra Platinum Hybrid 4x4, with power running boards and the advanced package.

I am super happy with my purchase even though I was slightly irritated with the Permaplate mandated purchase but I’m hoping to get my moneys worth out of it.

Man sales guys must be desperate to make a sale if they are offering a full tank of gas like that. He must have been close to his next commission tier.

PermaPlate is an interior and exterior paint, cloth and leather protectant. From the contract I got from PermaPlate, if anything happens to the paint or leather they’ll replace it. All zero deductibles and unlimited claims. The demo they had was spray paint on the hood and it “wiped” off and they had leather that they spilled coffee on and it literally beaded up, rolled off and the leather was dry and odor free.

 

After I signed the papers I noticed it pushed him to the top salesman spot at the dealer. I am in the North Bay Area, and bought the truck in Roseville.
