Well first of all the truck is a totally different truck. Engine power feels just like a stock 5.7 Tundra on stock 18" wheels and normal size tires again.

Tons of off the line power and torque and at all speeds feels peppy and with the added bonus of spinning/chirping both rear wheels with ease off the line when you want to. Could not be any more happy to say the least. I can't get over the difference and the truck is amazing on 20" wheels and 37" tires.

Ive burned about 500 highway miles and about 250 city since the swap. Highway MPG went from 10/12 up to 14/16.

City was about 9/11 and has been right at 13/14 and I have not changed how I drive.

Feels like I am barley pushing the gas peddle now vs how it felt before.

I wound up going to a Toyota Dealer vs an aftermarket shop and had them swap out the factory 4:30's for the Nitro 4:88's and they installed the Auburn Limited Slip Differential. I also had them rotate my tires and align the front end.

Total bill was $1600.00 and they had it 3 days.

Will put it through the towing test next week and see how she dose.

I mentioned in another thread that the Toyota mechanic broke the left front axel shaft end trying to remove the bearing. About 1/3 of the end of it was missing. They said that these bearings never wear out and that they are tough to remove without damaging the aluminum. Another reason I went to Toyota, incase something went wrong they could handle it. I saw my pile of parts but I didn't get any pics darn it! Should have for sure but i was in a rush to get out of there. They had to order the shaft and that was the reason that it took them 3 days vs 2.

FYI Toyota Book says 3.5 hours for front diff and 4.5 hours for rear diff if you decide to let a Toyota dealer do it. The shop rate where I went was $150.00 per hour.

2X4 with 4:88's and LSD will be bad ass dude! :curls:

Discount Tire gave me 4 of the Terra Grapplers for 1500.00 mounted and balanced. I found them on Tire Rack on sale and they matched the price.

Great call on the 4:88's Jim. A must with 37's. That $1600 dealer price, I am assuming that was the labor bill only, and your parts ? You 2wd or 4wd ?

Absolute must have running 20" wheels and 37" tires. Building this truck for Alaska and my new company up there and will keep this truck forever so the investment will be worth every penny for years to come.

$1600.00 was for Labor and non-synthetic gear oil (mandatory for Nitro Gears) and included a tire rotate / balance and front end alignment.

Gears and LSD were right at $1700.00

I bought this 2013 with 20k miles on it just a few months back with the 6" lift, the 20" wheels, and 35" tires and drove it about 2k miles like that. I put on the 37"s tires and could feel a big difference. Drove on those for another 2k miles.

These gears make it WAY better than it was with just the 35's.

It's almost like these gears could be even a little bit TALLER and it would make it even more bad ass.

I called one company a few hours ago here in Vegas.. he quoted me $1800 out the door for gears and auburn and labor.. but mine is 2x4 so I'm sure it will cost more if 4x4.

Seriously considering doing this as well. I'll be running Trail Grappler 35s. How much of an engine RPM change did you notice? My only conundrum at the moment is do I wait and do this with lockers? Kind of leaning towards waiting a bit to see how she runs. I may be able to get by for awhile.

If you're going to do both anyway I would wait. It really sucks to pull the 10.5" carrier out and put it back in. You'll also go through two bearings kits since it's extremely difficult to pull bearings off of the carrier and pinion without damaging them.

Truck is turning stock RPM's at all speeds now with the new gears. Its like it came from the factory again.

Had my truck on 35's on 20" wheels with the stock gears and it was sluggish off the line, at highway speed (especially towing), and it seemed like the truck was only producing about 75% its power.

The 4:88's changed all of that to where its back to 100% power at any speed.

Concerning Lockers, all depending on your daily/primary use of the truck.

Id say that air lockers front and rear are for heavy off road use and not good for an every day road driver in my opinion. You can do it but your going to tear up the axels, your lockers, and your gears if your trying to drive it like a normal truck. The front and rear of the truck will not "steer" (one wheel turning faster than the other in turns) for regular payment gravel roads, slippery wet pavement, or snow.

My truck is a 4x4 meant for pavement and very light off road use just like the factory designed it.
I can see where a rear LSD and adding a front locker might be handy if your going to be moderate off road as you can only lock the front diff when you need it. My advantage is that my rear locks only when needed and will allow the rear end to steer at all times while at the same time locking/unlocking automatically.

I went with only the rear LSD because I just don't need the front locker. I can see the advantage of the front on demand locker but I think in my application the 4x4 front diff will work for my needs. The locker is for pulling yourself up or through rough crap relatively in a STRAIGHT line.

For my use the front and rear lockers are a disadvantage in my opinion.

My LSD is already paying off for me in my particular application and its kept me from shifting into 4x4 on several occasions. Its very nice for both rear wheels to hook up automatically on occasion. It will be be very handy for me in snow as well.

I'm glad you took the plunge and upgraded to 4.88 gears. It often amazes me when people lift, big tire (37"+), and don't re-gear a truck. This is even worse in the diesel community since some of those assclowns think diesels have all the power in the world "just delete and tune it dude" mentality. Hell, I would re-gear before my lift.
I have 5.39 gears in my TJ, and I don't regret that decision at all.
