Haven't done it but nope, not worth it. Everyone riding in my truck can hear the radio fine…I don’t give a shit if my neighbors can’t.

I had the JBL system in my 2018 1794. I replaced the head unit and instantly had a better sounding truck, but still a very disappointing system, and had nothing to do with "needing the neighbors to hear me" LOL. I eventually replaced the entire system with a package from James @tech12volts. He's the guy you want to contact. You don't have to replace everything, but you won't be disappointed if you do. Let him know what you want to accomplish and he can help you with something that will fit your budget and will be completely plug and play.

Edit: I just noticed you might have a 2022. Not sure James has anything for those yet, but worth a try.

I too am on the fence about this for my 2020. I keep telling myself that I only listen to the music at a normal level, so how much better is a good system at normal levels. I also looked into replacing the head unit but I have no issues with my OEM one. It works as it should, hasn’t failed me yet. Some aftermarket HU are hard to program and need accessories to keep all the OEM controls. Even then I believe you lose some. Like I said, how much better is a aftermarket market system at normal levels?

James @tech12volts has what you need. You can start small or buy a complete system. Contact him and tell him what you want to accomplish and how much you want to spend. He can help you.

If you are anywhere near Delaware......I highly recommend Sound of Tri-state. They replaced the stock sub, all the original speakers everywhere else in the truck, added a sound processor and an amp for the 4 door speakers and JL audio sub box, and I later went back and replaced head unit with Kenwood receiver/ CD player etc...

Rather pricey but crystal clear loud sound that you can dial up or dial down the silliness with a bass know.

    Highly recommend!

I just upgraded front and rear speakers and let me tell you!! It's night and day with this adding some kickers KS series speakers. The stock speakers were all plastic. I also added sound deadening material to the doors and it eliminated mostly all the rattle from the bass.

Do you have the model or part number for the front and rear speakers?

I cut the original plug when removing the speakers and just soldered the wire to the new speakers.

Buy speaker adapters wiring harness. No need to cut into your factory wiring. This way it is reversible. Use crutchfield what fit my car guide. Add in any speakers and they will give you the wiring adapters for free. Or get the part number and buy it on ebay or Amazon.

I use Polk Audio speakers. Put 6.5 component speakers up front. I moved the 1" tweeters from the dash to the small "sail" panels on the front doors. Then, I put 6x9s in the rear doors. Had to cut the door sheet metal a bit for that to work. Sounds much better, IMO. I also put in a Pioneer mono amp and 10" shallow mount sub in the back.

Not worth it. The system is fine unless you plan on going a little crazy. Upgrading the amp and subwoofer will lead to a definite need for upgraded door, dash and tweeter upgrades. The factory JBL really isn’t bad, half the reason to upgrade is just the desire to do so.

    Stock, for now
I have a non jbl and it was garbage all through out the system and Im not being picky. The speakers are very low end paper tiny magnet ones. The amp cuts off the bass as the volume goes up. Maybe the jbl is a little better but what I have heard is not good. Any ways try to figure out where you wanna be. You dont have to spend 3-4k at once. I would definitely start with the speakers. The first set I bought were low - medium quality and made a huge different. I was happy for a while but Very soon made the decision to upgrade a little bit more. My first step was to sound treat all 4 doors and the back. I use the Stinger Stealth. I did double on each door and the back. I removed that rubbery “curtain” mat on the back. It made no sense to me. I bumped into a Hertz sale and bought the speakers and installed them. That was a huge change. Of course the amp will not have enough power to moved them so that was my next addition which I planned having in mind that soon there would be a sub amp. I found 2 JL at a fair price. Amps where pricey. At this point I had everything except the HU, which Im still debating on replacing.
The most important thing is to have the big picture planned out before doing anything or spending any money. This way you will save and time. Good luck.

Absolutely it's worth the upgrade. Ask yourself how much time you spend in your truck on daily or weekly basis. That's where your answer will come from. We can all give you our opinions but remember it's all subjective. I just sold my third Tundra today after almost 8 years and 105k miles, and the time I spent driving two hours each way to work and back was made bearable because of the speaker upgrades, along with a JL stealth box, two amps, 4 Focal tweeters, and the Kenwood DMX-1057XR. Hands down the best sounding system I've had in any of my vehicles and they have been too many to count. It wasn't cheap, but then again I did it in increments over time. Each time being able to truly notice the difference in sound. As we grow older (and wiser?) you'll find yourself looking for a SQ system in your ride and not the bass overkill we did as kids. When your head unit, amps, and speakers work as a real unit you'll hear things in your music that you've never heard before even though youve played the track thousands of times.

Do the work yourself, challenge yourself to learn new skills in doing the upgrades. It'll make your enjoyment of the upgrades so much richer because you did yourself. Again I had the amplified non-JBL system with the absolute worst paper speakers that barely drowned out the road noise. Not sure if your speakers are that bad but the speakers are usually the weakest link in any factory stock system, and therefore have the most notable difference in sound by upgrading them.

It was never about if my neighbors could hear it or not, it was how good does it sound to me?
