Can you strip off the top layer of wood to make it look new and then stain and seal it?

Yea, probably. There’s no rotten spots, but lots of the boards have lengthwise cracks that groan with heavy junk is rolled on/off. I’m due for new ramps also, and thinking about just plating the top with an aluminum sheet… eventually I’d like to wedge a slide in camper on the front. Hopefully with enough room to load motorbikes on the back.

When I spread dirt harvested from between the rocks, I get a nasty batch of ant lions. Should I leave em be? Put ant poison? They probably show up because I water the new dirt in, usually after an armadillo digs into the tree roots. The ant lions don’t really bother me, but I think they turn my dirt to dust.

I wouldn't mess with them. They're beneficial for the yard. They'll go away if/when grass grows there.

Have you ever seen what they hatch into?

Did you already check the transmission Mount? I know the 2wd’s have a clunky transmission Mount problem that’s been discussed here quite a bit.

Should I be concerned if one of our engineering new hires doesn't know what floppy disks are or how to use a serial port? :eek2:

How do you get through undergraduate school not knowing?

You sit up straight and parrot back whatever the professors say. Learning is secondary to stroking their ego and, of course, buying the text books they wrote.

That's education, in a nutshell. This is why I never judge candidates based on degree or not, I interview based on experience.

But yeah, @Jack McCarthy that tech died before many in the job market now were born. At this point, 5.25 and 3.5 disks are anecdotal, like the Furby and Slapchop.

I don't think it's surprising floppy was nearly dead for new stuff in 2000 and 232 ports have been gone for most things other than controllers/equipment for nearly as long since USB came about.

Working at a University it's an interesting problem, the students are taught brand new standards and equipment but it takes years to filter down to business. A bunch of the state stuff here in PA is still using COBOL, shit went bananas during Covid with all the new unemployment claims.

I must’ve gone to a backwards undergraduate school because the test equipment we used in the labs was 15-20 years old. TA didn’t know what I was talking about when I asked to see the digital sampling scopes because they were all analog with some me sort of trace triggering function.

I still have a Furby in the box I need to sell on eBay I bought back in 1999 with my girlfriend. We woke up drove to the plaza and got in line not knowing what we were waiting on but figured it was good.

It’s even more meaningful when you only learn two chapters out of the textbook and everything else in class you learn from are handouts.

I’m a Luddite, so can’t weigh in much on tech except to say my university wasn’t cutting edge, but neither have most of my employers been. Also, I put myself through college and couldn’t afford books. I bought 3 for the “weeder” classes I’d heard push people to drop out. Never missed class, listened and took good notes, learned to speak up and ask, when I didn’t understand. Made it through. But I think that wouldn’t work for every learner type, or subject.

In my last semester, a b!t¢4 teacher whose class I had taken a couple years before confronted me to say she’d heard I’d gotten through her class without buying the book and she was all kinds of pissed off— said she was changing her entire approach so that couldn’t happen. What?! Why?!! She was always touting underrepresented groups… and yet, faced with someone that found a way to overcome financial limitations by working harder— she wasn’t okay with it.

We sprayed the entire yard with some chemical that kills the grass but isn't horrible for the environment. I can't remember what it was but it worked.

Hell, with the current heat, just stop adding water... it'll go brown in a week!
If you want to go all in, rent a sod cutter, cut the old lawn with roots, toss it! Add some new topsoil, seed water.... GRASS!

Update. I've driven over 500 miles since greasing/oiling everything. I have a lot of poly, and uniballs on the upper arms. I haven't hear the noise, the clunk since. Makes no sense to me, and I'll probably hear and feel it the very next time I get in the truck. But, hmmm.

I did find a new noise to worry about at around 80mph. I'll focus on that. Grease first I think...

Some teachers / professors have a bit of a complex. I didn't run into your issue, but I had similar financial constraints. I also had a problem with having to buy the 21st edition of a calculous book, or whatever math. Or history. Has it changed? No.
Our bookstore had a 1-week return policy. I bought the books finals week, crammed and returned them. I never owned a book in college for more than a week.
