I think the gas tax increase is an automatic increase tied to inflation, set to happen next week. I did read today that the Gov. and the state legislature have agreed to send a few hundred dollars to the Calif. residents as a sort of gas rebate to the tune of billions of dollars, since Calif. has a record budget surplus right now.

Not only that, I just got my registration renewal… $372 for a 16 year old 1/2 ton truck with 300+ on her.

It's a native Californian thing. With all the bullshit that gets thrown at us here I still can't think of a better place to live. I still will bitch about it though

 

It does take a good income stream to live well here, as you probably know, but as a lifelong MC rider I couldn't give up the almost year round riding. I read about these poor bastards on MC forums I visit, that have to store their bikes for winter and have what they call a "riding season", not to mention the salt they pour on the roads. Not for me, I can be at the beach, the high desert, or the Sierra Nevada mountains within a 2-3 hour drive. I'm very happy here.

 

You know it ! 10 minutes to the lake, 20 minutes to MX track, 30 minutes to the mountains, 1 hr to snow skiing, 2 hours to high desert 2 1/2 to the ocean . . . Where else are you going to get that !

 

^^^ Live 10 minutes to the ocean here in FL and love it, but 2 1/2 hr drive to the beach is being on a mission. Would rather go to one of your beautiful lakes full of cool water and trout up in the mountains. Now that's worth a drive.

 

Southern California has probably the best weather in the nation. If not for the insane taxes I would love living there too.

 

Im 3rd generation native Californian and have zero regrets leaving. In fact I moved my dad last year to Eastern OR as well and within 2 weeks he told me "I feel more at home in 2 weeks than i ever did in San Diego", and he lived nearly entire life in East County. Now my mom bought a place this week to bail as well (also native Californian).

Once upon a time I could turn a blind eye and say the weather and stuff was worth it but once I left I was so happy to be done lying to myself.

Heck, just in car registration savings alone I can take the family to SD to visit. 89 bucks every 2 years and no DEQ/Smog. Oh and propery taxes are a whole 1300.00 a year on my 5 acres and house.

There are tradeoffs for sure of leaving but that state has done a hell of a job of running the natives out in one way or another and I doubt many of us regret leaving. Plus im FAR more embarrassed to tell people I live in Portland for 7+ years than that im from Cali now days

 

Both OR & CA are run like shit. I live in the true NorCal, probably similar to Eastern OR, not a big city. Neighbors are truly neighbors, watching out for each other and just plain being nice is a way of life. THANK GOD, we are LUCKY for sure !

Ran her out of gas, closest place was, I think $6.89gal. Yes that is $172.

Granted, I only lived in Poway add haunted it, Rancho Bernardo, and Escondido, but ... I was back for a training and certification in 2017, and honestly, I'm so glad we left so I didn't end up getting stuck there like others I still talk to.

Man I always thought our trucks had a 23 gallon tank. I've thought that for 6 years now.

 

Maybe yours is? Mine is 26.5gal I think, but its 2010. Later gens have even bigger.

I normally fill up at about 1/4 tank and always put about 17gal in it. Somehow I messed up on this tank
