Don't get me wrong, loaded up that's a lot of stuff for $20k in California, for a Limited 4WD w/only 130k.

But seriously. Check that frame. Seeing how much orange is inside that rear hub and is visible on the rear framerail in the same pic, I'm skeptical about the truck's history. But I always lean toward the worst.

Also, make sure that timing belt was changed within the last 30-40k or past 3-5 years as it should've been. Change interval is 9yr/90k miles, but can fudge out to 10yr/10k.

This pic. And also, note the passenger step is bent downward.

Belt was changed at 86 K in 2018. I was gonna try to negotiate for just the truck Im not really interested in all the extras. I noticed the rust there but wasn't sure if it was just on the actual wheel itself but will definitely look underneath. Ill take a look at the passenger step thanks I didn't catch that one. Will update after I lay eyes on it

Can't help but think the other stuff he's got on there would be worth at least 25-50% more than the extra cost. Could be a good possible resale to another CA member, but I dunno.

If you got a small ball peen, tap around with the ball end. Look deep above the spare tire and where its "X" crossmember hooks into the main framerails. He's not showing any under-hood shots, look for rust on the heads of things under the hood, signs of rust on bolts high up under the hood, like at the top of the radiator support, I've typically only seen on salt-belt trucks.

Pop the oil filler cap and shoot a light down inside. You want to see silver to golden. Anything that looks more like lacquer or shellac could be signs of short-trip syndrome like mine.

Otherwise, no BS, I think it's a pretty solid price.

Probably true but id rather not have to deal with reselling all of that honesty. You talking about tapping around the frame of it? I got the vin and it looks like its been in the bay area its whole life. Ive been seeing some comparable 2wd trucks up for like 12.5 or 13, would 4wd be worth the extra 5 or you think I could offer him down some?

Is it really 9 years? I've seen 7, 8, and 9 years listed. Since I'm only driving ~100 miles a month I'm going to be due based on time before miles. My current belt is 5 years old.

The Toyota Maintenance schedule speaks of months/miles concerning timing belt change.
For instance for your 2002 they suggest 90K miles/72 months. For my 2004 they bumped it up a bit months wise....90K miles/108 months.

Ouch. That means I would be due next spring. My timing belt only has 38k miles on it.

I might extend it to 108 months. I bet Toyota realized that 6 years was too soon. Can't imagine anything is different about your belt over mine.

@singher. You should also check the rack and pinion. For that truck (I own an 06 Dbl Cab also) that's the $1100 replacement model. Look for leaks/torn bellows and any play or weird noises when turning steering wheel.

With modern materials, 90k/108mos (9yrs) is a pretty safe bet. It may not have been the case with the OEM parts. We've definitely seen guys here make it well into the 100k's of miles with the original belt.

Anyway, it's super easy to inspect the belt for peace of mind. Make a point of checking it at each oil change, which should be at least once a year with the mileage you're pushing.

Mine's also at the 5yr mark, IIRC. I'm going to stick with 10yr/100k miles as I've done with all my other vehicles. OEM/Owner's manual always errs on the side of caution for legal reasons.
