Efn Mice!!!

Ok, so this isn't Tundra related, but it happened to my daily driver, 2001 Corolla. My Tundra gets to stay in the garage most days, so maybe that counts. My check engine light came on a couple of weeks ago, so I pulled the code and got a P0171 (system too lean). Possible causes were a dirty air cleaner, dirty MAF sensor, clogged fuel filter, etc. I checked the air filter first and found that some little shit decided to make a nest in the air filter compartment.. I cleaned everything up and replaced the chewed up air cleaner and cleared the code. The next day the CE light came back on. I pulled the MAF sensor which was visibly dirty probably from the hole in the air filter. Cleared the code again and it hasn't come back on for a couple of days now. I set a trap at the front wheel of the car and caught 1 mouse. Yesterday i went to get a pair of neoprene work glove out of the box and found a nest in there. I set a trap last night in the garage and it wasn't even touched. Hopefully the one that was already dead did the second nest too.

There's a vent under the cowling where the wipers are and another one in the trunk that is covered with a plastic grill that mice can enter the car through. Had a nest of babies in my older Camry back there years ago. Aluminum screen or 1/4" hardware cloth will fix your issues.

Is it dark where you park the corolla? I found that if you have light they are far less likely to go into the lit area.

 

Not dark, I park right under a dusk to dawn light at my garage. My lot has a weird layout, my front yard meets up with several back yards to the people that live in front of me. One neighbor decided to park his new car hauler trailer ( which he only stores junk in) and a camper right to the property line of my front yard. It is nice and dark there. I could only hope that mice can make a nice home in his camper and trailer.

 

sounds like you need to throw some bait under his camper....................

 

consider peppermint oil mixed with water to spray around engine bay, or soak some cottonballs with it and throw them in the engine bay. Worst thing that can happen is you get a nice smell when you turn on the AC.

 

Believe me, I have seriously thought about it.

I hope it doesn't come to that. I have been in my house for 30 years and never had something like this going on. One of the traps that I have in the garage had the bait taken off of it last night, so i still have a least 1 more. I will have to set it closer to a hair trigger to get this one.

 

Used one of this repellent in my dads Merc after finding roddent droppings under the hood.

Did you check the cabin air filter as well?

Just got my truck back from the shop recently, 400 bucks later (Mice ate a sensor wire) Quite a surprise when the dash lights up like this...

 

MIce are like roaches...if you see one you, actually have ten. If you see ten, then you have a major problem!

 

I had a similar issue with the wifes Lexus NX300. Mice where making a nest and ate up the wiper fluid hose. Thank goodness it wasn't any wires. So I cleaned it all out, fixed the hose and went to Home Depot and bought those green poison blocks. Broke one up in little pieces and put them around the engine bay. Waited a few day and when they where gone I added more. When I noticed that it was still there, then that meant the little fucker was dead. I still put some every once in a while just to make sure. Normally I can tell if they are back because they will piss on the intake manifold cover and you can smell the piss as soon as you pop the hood. So you could give that a try, they love those green blocks.

 

I have a beater 1967 Wheelhorse tractor used solely for maintaining my long, steep gravel driveway. Keep it under a tarp outside. Mice love to get in around the Kohler flywheel and build a nest. The flywheel just hacks them up and spits out little mouse bits when I start it up. I laugh and plow gravel.

 

There is no cabin filter. I did check just to make sure. I guess they were not a thing 20+ years ago.

This works, i use one in my deer lease trailer which is personless many months of the year, not a single poop dropping. It makes loud (to a mouse) banging type random sounds, its slightly audible so I turn it off when I arrive with my dog. It'll work anywhere it stays out of rain.

Mice also don't like the smell of bleach. Bleach smell sticks around a while, so I spray a 50-50 mix all around the trailer or car, whatever to further deter them, bastxrds....

One shop found a rodent nest in my 2002 Tundra's air filter housing. He stores older cars on his property and uses this product, one pouch in each filter housing. I park outside, too. I tried it and it works. Instructions advise change out every month, I get away with every two months, which works out to $3 for 60 days of protection.

 

Sucks but there is always a silver lining.....take those bird feathers and take up fly tying......
